I'm running a social bookmarking website and for some reasons I don't see any value on automatic bookmark submission, but I see that many and many peoples are doing this and they are paying good money for these software, so I'd like to know your opinions about the "big" advantage of it. I have never used this kind of software, but I doubt that they can submit to the very popular sites (like digg, stumbleupon, etc etc) without having the bookmark removed and the account blocked. What's the advantage to submit to hundreds of sites when the most of them are only used for link submission and no one reads what others are submitting (the lists of social bookmarks sites contains a lot of pligg sites or similar with lots of links submitted and no comments and no votes)? In terms of SEO, the do-follow bookmarking sites have very low PR, because google don't like this kind of sites; The no-follow ones didn't add any seo value to your links and also they have lower traffic. Please share your thoughts about this with us.
Most people using automated software submissions are very close to being spammers. They are just spamming these sites and hope that even 0.01% of their submissions get them a visit, their efforts(not much) would make sense.
Your value estimation (0.01%) is even lower than my expectations, but I completely agree with you. What I don't understand is why they are paying so much for the submission software. The most popular one I know cost almost $150. They are wasting a lot of money and we have to waste time, effort, bandwidth etc to keep the sites clean of spam. P.S.: Please do not post in this thread the name of any automatic submission tool. Thanks!
Zeegal, I am one of of the many that has brought these services and I am of the same opinion also. I have ceased to use these services and am trying the approach of quality over quantity.
It's just about SEO - and yeah you can do SPAM with such tools but on the other site it can just be an helpfull tool when you don't have the time to do all the submissions by hand. And even if they pass only little PR it's PR with your keyword and also helps increasing your domain pop. For 5min work with a good tool not bad huh?
That's not only about 5 min work. You also spend some money on the software. At the same price you can buy 5-7 permanent PR4 links that is by far more beneficial than 100 links on PR0 sites that are full of spam.
There are so many free softwares to do so. Trying it out will not cost any. I agree with you on getting one good permanent backlink from higher PR is a lot better than hundreds of PR0 backlinks.

I don't see much value in those efforts either. Contributing long-term is the only way to gain success. But, I believe the spammers don't realize that, or they are selling the services to other people who don't know any better
Not everyone uses these submission softwares to spam. I use them to submit my latest additions to all the bookmarking sites, the new pages get indexed really fast and start receiving traffic in no time.
Whilst I see your point (and have not tried any social submission software beyond one experiment so far) surely the ability to have numerous links, even if low PR, is an advantage? Also I have only just started looking into this but isnt nofollow just for google, i.e. the nofollow links still help in Yahoo et all (could be wrong, only read that once and haven't researched it)? I also would have thought having the links come back with the anchor text that you have provided would be a big help. Like I said I have no really tried any of this, I am still trying to work through a lot of the theory and the ethics behind link building as i don't want to waste time or be a spammer!
the automators are just a shot on the dark to get some backlinks with no effort but as you all know...with no work, no traffic manual submission is the best one to get relevant links
Manual submission is good if you have one or several websites, if you have 100 websites only automated ones, it works perfect, using many of fully automated scripts and I am very satisfied, anyway they need some effort to proper setup but the time you spending on this is worth of it.
@net-point Yeah as your business grows bigger automation is the only answer :-(. Even if some of that looks like "spam" you won't make it to a full time income with no automation. No matter if scripts or hired people.
