Surely your bank must be able to process foreign currency receipts?

Direct transfer or check deposit, banks should have no issues with foreign currency receipts.

Most banks should. It is one of their basic functions IMO. How would exporters do business then?

You could call your bank for more details.

I don't really know a bank in my country which doesn't support checks in International currencies.

You will be able to get the money in INR but you will have to wait from 7-20 days till bank processes the check.

What happens is that when you deposit the check in your bank account, it will send it to issuing bank and issuing bank would send it back after usual verification. After that amount is deposited in your bank account.

Why go for the check when it offers direct wire transfer. I'm not sure about AlertPay's wire transfer fees (Should be something between $10 - $25) but it's much faster than a cheque (usually takes 3-7 working days).

Alertpay accept bank transfer to your country but it has a fee of 20$ (I think)
Anyways, your bank will accept the cheque in $$, but they will take a exchange fee and negotiation fee. All banks do it unless you have a different personal conditions.
    Cheers

As far as I can make out the OP's father is requesting him not to accept foreign currency checks, cause he will then have to keep details about transaction of foreign exchange for the income tax department.

Dont go for check withdrawal. It takes long time before the check cashes out.

Better do a wire transfer ($15 fee) and you will get your account credited with local currency.

    Hope this helps

Do not go for cheque. it will take many days to reach you.

Better try option of wire transfer, it's the fastest option available :)
