I'm wondering about how to get greater PR for a new site, if I buy an expired domain with say a PR4, then point the domain (301 redirect) to my new site...will I automatically get a PR4 ranking (or less?). If that works, what if I buy more expired PR4+ sites and point them to my new site, does it mean I'll get more PR passed on? Thanks
There is no point in buying expired domains with PR...since the PR would be adjusted as soon google notices the change in the ownership and site layout. Regards, RightMan
Thanks but that doesn't make sense to me, for example: - The expired domains already have PR, so even when they changed to an expired function they still kept the PR. - Sites linking to the expired site still pass on link juice, just they didn't notice the site they're linking to expired. - How would Google notice the site layout differences? Surely Google would validate the expired site since it's now live.
What if i wait 1-2 months, will the PR returned or at least increased ? (because the back links still exist)
Just two things: 1) If you are not already aware of, google has become a registrar long back and now they have official access to the whois database but they have not launched their domain services yet. Well, the only reason behind this was to monitor the domain registrant history. Since domain age is considered to be a important factor in the search ranking, people started selling 5 yrs, 10 yrs or older domains at higher prices. Unfortunately, now google can track that and accordingly give them the rankings. 2) And I am tired of heard PR again and again. Friend, PR has nothing to do with the search engine rankings. To clear the doubts, please read this article at http://www.free-seo-news.com/newsletter213.htm#facts I suggest all the members not to get mad after PR. Its just a waste of time, money and resources. Instead, try to put more focus on using ethical SEO practices.
please it is not that easy. read this thread to really understand http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=1252071
I had one PR2 expired domian and google dropped it to PR1 in the next PR update. I agree with RightMan's idea google must have checked the site layout and ownership.
I'm not sure where these quotes are coming from (sorry if coming across as an ass, but I'm interested in this subject): "Sometimes it retains PR for a few months or more" - Who said this? I checked on sites like SeoMoz and Matt Cutts, I didn't see a time limit. "please it is not that easy" - Your link wasn't on topic "PR2 expired domian and google dropped it to PR1 in the next PR update" - But this is good news right? It's better than a PR0 which most new sites start out with. PR fluctuates all the time, so you may get back upto a PR2
i have many pr sites and many were dropped sites ... IF you get the same content on them and good links they do not lose the PR ...how do i know i have many pr2 sites i have bought that are now pr6 for over a year now ... Good content in the same niche and good links ..they will keep the PR and also pass it to other sites ...as i have used many to gain pr and black links
Thanks Turbodan for confirming... The reason I thought this, was I've checked my competition's backlinks/pr juice only to find it's worse that mine, but they are ranked higher...I've always felt they were ranked higher by the use of 301 redirects on expired domains with PR...
I have registered dropped domains with great backlinks. They still have their PR because of the backlinks.
The point is that buying a dropped domain for its PR is a waste of money. You are better off having a good relevant domain name and building it up. Many spammers and scammers use dropped domains.
But surely, when you buy a dropped domain, it might drop to PR0 (and I have proof that it might not), but still you''l be ahead of a fresh domain, because you have existing backlinks.
Yeah TranserNaga, I agree with you on that point! How would a dropped domain be any different that say buying a domain which used to be popular, which now points to nothing? Just because spammers/scammers buy dropped domains, doesn't mean we should use them? My question, taking it further is what if you bought plenty of domains with PR and redirected them to your own site..would this help?
I think you should do it. Buy as many expired domains with PR as you can, and point them all to your domain. You asked a question and when you heard the correct answer you didn't want to believe that it was true, because you already have it in your mind what you want the truth to be. Rule of Thumb: You are looking for a quick and easy shortcut. That never works out well. If buying expired domains with PR was a proper and tested successful SEO method, there wouldn't be any expired domains with PR to buy. Think about it.
If you are planning to buy the domains and point them to your site then I don't recommend it - you can get penalized by Google. Why? If the domain you are buying is about poker and your site is about internet marketing Google will see you are cheating keywords. Poker keywords will come under your internet marketing site. Shoemoney wrote about this and he was off Google for about 2 and 1/2 years. (He was buying expired sites with .edu and .gov links and got penalized for using keywords that has nothing to do with his site.)
hmansfield, I'm not trying to argue with anyone here. I haven't yet found the correct answer (no proof that buying expired domains wouldn't help), hence why I'm replying to comments here. PhilipV, yep my idea is to buy expired domains on topic with my current site..I can see how Google would penalise someone with non related backlinks. I read the same about Shoemoney, I thought he was banned by Google for other matters but I also read later on he and Delavue wrote a script which checked Dmoz and expired domains, bought them and made a ton of cash. In his Shoemoney Tools site, he even has a tool which checks for expired domains with PR...so yeah, he must know something...
