For getting high traffic and better index ranking in three major search engines, which is more important thing back links or content?

 

both are important and have different but linked purpose. you should have quality content on your site and then start building backlinks. moreover, if you have quality content then people will start linking to your site by themselves. if you don't have quality or relevant content your all link building process will fail.

 

In simple words, BOTH

It should a good blend of both fresh and unique content with quality back links.

Yes, but i think just quality content can do a better job, you would get backlinks automatically if you have great contents. Unique / Fresh content would make your website more popular and thus you would get good traffic

Not agree with this statement " you would get backlinks automatically". As far as I am concern you can't get back link automatically until or unless you are offering services like Google.

One have to work hard to get quality back links to the websites.

I agree, there's no point on working on getting quality backlinks if your content isn't any good, you may get an increase in visitors but you will also notice your bounce rate increase as people leave the site. Good content is crucial!

 

Absolutely BOTH but if you are comparing both then as per my experience the priority gos to backlinks, with mediocre level content and quality backlinks you may produce tremendous results.

However, SEO is all about assumptions. One thing that can work on one website may not produce results on other website.

'Content' is irrelevant.

However, if you meant unique content, that's different. In that case, backlinks are still probably more important, due to the fact that it's harder to 'fake' backlinks than it is content, but unique content can really make the difference between page 1 and page also ran.

Poor content with strong backlinks will rank higher and give more traffic than good content with poor backlinks.

 

BOTH are important but backlinks should be prioritized first because through it you would be able to get high traffic and better index ranking which are true enough to discover your quality content website.

 

Nothing is best and everything is best... just quality is important so.. what ever you do it must have a good quality.

What If you have a good PR and lots of links but you don't have content, or have weak content?? -You just failed.
