One Problem I have With Google

I love Google, however, one problem that has bothered me from time to time is that many of the top pages per search result are very aged. Of course it is good, old knowledge, but for some topics I want to see new information, not pages that haven't been updated since 2006. Just throwing that out there, and I hope Google doesn't have me assassinated for this thread.

Age is one of factors that added into SERP value. Furthermore, that aged site might have huge amount of backlinks, so that's the reason they stay on top.

That's exactly it. Google uses age of the domain as a factor when ranking a website, and since the site have been live longer they no doubt have much more backlinks.

I agree with you. Sometime for some keywords I dont check first page of google and went to 3rd and more pages. What happen to google QDF (query deserves freshness) factor in algorithm.

I wish matt or googler read this and think abt it.

Site age factor is also one of the major factor in rankings that's why?

    Hi,

Google QDF is there, if you put quality fresh content in your site or especially in your blog then you can notice the change in SERP.

    Regards :)

But some times the results are so damn good they don't have to be updated. For example, look up "three letter words" and one of the first will be a text file from 1998 with all the english words and definitions of them.

My biggest pet peeve is that Google is looking at individual pages of a site too much as separate entities. They need to work on reading an entire site and ranking based on an entire site, not just one page. Only then will they finally get the best sites appearing on page one. A lot of the searches I do still produce junk pages on page1, which pisses me off when I am not working on internet marketing. Maybe it is not possible to do but Google needs to improve this process, if the internet overall is to become a little more useful.

For instance, for the heck of it I just did a search on "how to grow marigolds" and found that there were better sites about Marigolds and flowers in general appearing as far down as page 5 (as far as I went), than there were on page 1. As a user I want to see the better content sites on page 1 not just sites that have a lot of backlinks, social bookmarking etc. The sites that should have ranked at the top for this search should be sites that have a lot of content not only about Marigold but also flower related stuff.

That would also actually make it easier for us internet marketers who would then know that a content rich site of RELATED material DOES have a chance of getting on page one simply on its merits as a good site. So if we do buy a PLR pack of articles for instance (or write our own) we know we can put them together into a decent site and get to page one as we add even more content, instead of continuously trying to fool the search engines by getting backlinks, blog posts, yahoo answers, digs, etc. That gets old after awhile!

Users of the internet would appreciate this too!

Maybe Google already tries to do this, but if they do it is obviously not perfected yet!

I too have had the same problem. I used the advanced search to sort results by date so the fresher and recently updated pages appear in the first of the results. But thereis no way to make it always like that. Even if you have signed in. This is because everything is lost when you clear the cookies.
