Wanted to know how big is the power of email marketing nowadays?

As we know that most of the marketing emails are detected as spam and I am wondering does anyone do this marketing method these days. I have a list of email addresses and perhaps if the method is still in used, I can use them for marketing.

The thing with email marketing is to only send mail to people that physically signed up to get your emails through sign up form that you have on your website. If you buy email addresses that is spam. It is more commonly referred to as an optin list.

Basically the people you send emails to have to 'ask' you to send it to them. You are prohibited by the Can/Spam Act from sending out bulk emails to purchased email accounts.

If they didn't ask for it, you are not allowed to send it to them...

Can anyone tell me their success in email marketing? How does the profit increase after the marketing?

It all depends on how well you build a relationship with the list.

I have 1 niche that I can't get to convert very well, but I have
a few lists in other niches that convert like crazy... one of them
got me 2nd in an affiliate contest when I only had 800 subscribers,
I was 1 sale behind the leader and had 18,000 subscribers.

It comes down to being able to relate to them. I can relate to my
highly profitable lists well and really connect with them while the
niches I can't relate to as well give me a harder time.

And how did you build a strong and good relationship with the list?

Let say I have few blogs and many subscribe to them. The relationship should be build via blog posts, is it? Or any other way?

I was actually searching for info on this today on Google News:
    http://news.google.com/news?ned=us&hl=en&q=email+marketing

To summarize, it seems that businesses are inclined to use more email marketing in 2009 (http://www.globalgold.co.uk/web-hos...-be-fifth-biggest-focus-in-2009-19054097.html) and consumers are "slightly" more tolerable with opt-in email (http://www.marketingvox.com/opt-in-email-tolerance-rises-ever-so-slightly-043391/).

With email marketing, you need to be considered with deliverability, high open rates, high clickthrough and eventually conversions. The first requires some technicalities (like email service you use or set up, whitelisting and else), the others need split or multivariate testings etc. to make better gains. And overall, like the others mentioned, it is always good to have some connection with your list

Seems like email marketing is quite tough if I don't study the right way of doing it..

Learn how to get an email list in the most honest way. You can give away something for free (ebook perhaps) in exchange for their email addresses. But be sure that you don't spam them.

But sometimes, it's better to invest some money for it.

This doesn't seem to be exactly true, if you are to believe Wikipedia.

According to this, it is not necessary for them to ask for your email, but you shouldn't be sending to harvested emails either.

I read this as one could send to his own buyers list for example even though they didn't ask for an email. But what about fair attendee lists that are given to all? Is it harvesting of emails?

    I don't know.

It shouldn't stop you though. And don't get worked up with the sophisticated words like deliverability and CTR etc. You can always ask for advice for the first for instance, or work with services like aweber which boast high deliverability rates (not a user myself). About the other issues, you yourself may be able to figure out what kind of a subject line your list would respond to and what kind of a call to action could work. And again, if you think you don't have a clue, search the net for ideas on email copies and copywriting in general. Hell, look into your own inbox, those autoresponder messages that you get every so often from some internet marketing guru is probably near to what works. But if your target audience is different (e.g. videogame enthusiasts, photographers, work at home moms) you need to get creative.

I am not really an expert in this, just passing over what I found out about this recently. To me, the whole thing with seeing the graphs of open ratios and getting them higher with the next send with clever copy tweaks etc. seem like it can be fun (I like strategy games).

By all means, search more info on this before giving up. It may prove worthwhile for your business.

Thanks necc. It seems quite tough but I'm going to try it out though. My target population is the one I had in my health related website's mailing list. For now, my strategy is to try to mail them once a week to get a good relationship and after few weeks, start to market my products once a while.

Thank you once again for sharing the info you've searched earlier.
