I don't like expandable ads, it will be something like "when you pass over something, you have to see it"
Will expandable ads alter my site's layout or be disruptive to my users? No. In order to protect the publisher and user experience, we've created several policies around how expandable ads work: * Ads will expand only after a user clicks and interacts with the ad. Mouseovers or rollovers won't trigger the ad, in order to prevent accidental expansions. * An expandable ad won't expand more than double its width or height. * Once expanded, the ad will appear as a layer over the page content so that your content will not be modified or shifted in any way. * The user may close the expanded panel at any time. * All expandable ads must comply with our standard AdWords image ad policies. Keep in mind that you'll generate earnings from CPC expandable ads when a user visits the advertiser's landing page, and not when a user simply clicks to expand the ad.
I haven't seen these ads yet. I hate such ads but GOogle is doing the right thing by only making them expandable when someone clicks on the ads.
As long as the ads are initiated by user click - they will be popular. We at KeyAudioAds have been looking into alternative ways to serve ads to webpages and we have gone down the user initiated ad where a small banner will appear top page, and use chooses to play the media - or not. This is very popular with webmasters as they get paid per impression anyway, and advertisers as the ads are non intrusive. We will be watching the new Google ad with interest.
Thanks for the info. Repped. Google is taking a risky path. Expandable ads mean that the audience will get more info about an ad's destination before following through. Since most ads are for junk nobody really wants, clickthru rates will decrease. However, the user satisfaction on both ends - audience and advertiser - will increase, because advertisers will get more relevant clickthrus. The user will only follow thru if the additional information confirms the user's interest in the ad. Basically, it's bad news for publishers. But you can't deny that Google are doing the right thing. The second click confirms the first, so expandables will cut down on clickfraud and useless clicks.
In my opinion, those advertisements are more money-making cause they get more attention from the user - they expand in a new dimension (not affecting the page content), i've seen them around powered by other companies though but not by google.
