I'm currently trying to decide between the two - does anybody know which is better, the Athlon or Intel dual processor?
I've always been an AMD fan, but I've honestly not worked with the newer Intel HT chips that are allegedly comparable. For those more into the subject, it might help to know if you're talking about a personal machine or a server you're contemplating over.
AMD ALL THE WAY. Time and time again there have been tests and AMD always comes out ahead. I recently ordered all new hardware and I'm building a dual-core AM2 machine with 2gb of fram and 640gb of space with dual 20" monitors I definitely recommend AMD. Here are a couple articles: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-6389077-1.html http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.html?i=1574 Read this one over carefully: http://reviews.cnet.com/4520-10442_7-6389077-9.html?tag=lnav
Awesome articles - hard to argue after going through several pages of "rounds" only to see the same pattern each time ... AMD, AMD, AMD, AMD ...
Thanks for the links. I don't think there's much argument. Athlon. It's for a pc, btw. Athlon was my preferred option but then I got to wondering if Intel was just as good. Clearly, it doesn't perform as well as the AMD.
I had thought about going Intel also for my next machine, just to try it, but after reading the reviews there wasn't even a chance I would go Intel. Maybe in the future Intel will catch up, but right now AMD is blazing ahead of Intel -- I'm glad too, I like AMD better hehe
I've been an AMD fanboy for a while and after looking at the benchmarks of Intel's new Core 2 Duo (Conroe) processors and seeing the price, I'm switching to Intel when the new chips come out at the end of July.
I'm getting ready to order the AMD AM2 4200+ for $350. I already bought all the other hardware, but I'm waiting on the process until I return from vacation...it's gonna be a sick system. dual 320gb hard drives, 2gb of ram, dual core 2.2ghz processors, 256mb vid card..oh man it's gonna be sweet.

LOL! What a beast of a setup. Couldn't help notice you were stingy on the sound ... hehe. Where's that system coming from then?
