Hi all, I’ am fairly new to DP and don’t post very often as tend to use the services of you all. However I constantly read all the threads regarding SEO. Over the past few months I have started to questions methods that I have been using and was wondering if I’ am doing the right thing. Here’s some examples of what I’ am talking about below 1.) I read that Article submission is good as you can get lots of back links, and then I read that for example: You send 500 articles out for submission that if the same article is posted on all 500 sites it’s classed as duplicate content so doesn’t really carry any weight. 2.) Also that social bookmarking is good for increasing your traffic and getting your site noticed. However if it was so good a SEO strategy why has DP stopped forum members selling Social bookmarking services? 3.) The older your Domain age in your niche the higher the authority it should be? The point I’ am trying to make is, what is now classed as good white hat SEO? and what is frowned upon in Google,Yahoo,MSN eyes. What do you all think are still the best techniques?
why has DP stopped forum members selling Social bookmarking services? Because it's against the Terms of Service of those sites, not because being bookmarked in a non-spammy manner is bad for seo
In the spirit of sharing, I will answer one point and leave the others for someone else: 1.) I read that Article submission is good as you can get lots of back links, and then I read that for example: You send 500 articles out for submission that if the same article is posted on all 500 sites it’s classed as duplicate content so doesn’t really carry any weight. Article submission is a good 'white hat' SEO strategy. No one can penalise you for distributing good content! If that content happens to be particularly good, it may get syndicated on other sites in addition to the directories you submitted it to. That is good! Duplicate content is only an issue when that content is on a page you are trying to rank. With article marketing, that is not the case. You are simply getting x number of links (the more the merrier), from the pages with duplicate content on. Whatever anyone says, a link is still a link. The only problem is if you are using content that is already on your site to submit to the article directories. Always make sure it is unique so that the content on your site does not get shoved into the supplemental results! HTH
SEO is not about putting your finger on something. anything can be right and any thing can be bad. there is a lot of trying and working hard to see whats best
That's a gray area. You can have the nicest content in the world and you'll still be listed so far down in SERPs, that you won't be seen. More and more, I'm seeing the importance of backlinks w/strategic anchor text becoming more apparent.
Ah.. But All Links are not equal. Instead of firing 500 same articles, changing the article body and the anchor text will give you a better SEO result. When all articles pointing to you looks same, it looks spammy and the links are not VERY NATURAL. It work today because Google Still gives us the benefit of the doubt. That you have no control over who links to you. It is working today, but it should not be a part of your long term strategy..
same article should be submitted only to two or three article submission sites. social bookmarking should be done but not in an illegitimate manner i.e. giving votes to your site by creating multiple accounts. domain age do carry the weight but it should also have some good content to offer or else having old domain with the irrelevant content will do no good
White hat seo: All is useful to users. Black hat seo: Something is good to search engineer but not good to users!
I never have and still do not understand how people can get their knickers in a twist over whether content rules or SEO technique rules. They both matter. It's that simple. Is it more important, if you want to be able to run fast, to exercise your right leg or your left leg?
My suggestion is just update content frequently. Article submission never hurts... earlier post has already given answer so..I dont bother to do it. Bookmarking- if you use different description then its a best tool for SEO.
I agree, but by having quality content you have more chance of people linking to you naturally (which will always be the best links to gain). That's why I say it is the most important aspect of seo. Owlcroft is right. Both matter, but if your ranking high and your content is rubbish don't expect many to come back for a second visit.
all interesting point everyone many thanks, what i have noticed is everyone is more or less like me. Some of you think content is king other back links, but both are needed SEO is getting harder and harder and am glad we can all come together and share are views again many thanks.
