How did Twitter became what it is today?

Twitter became popular at such a stunning speed. My question is:
    1) How did they fund the project, Twitter?
    2) How did they advertise Twitter?
    3) How are they earning revenue with no ads displayed in Twitter?
    4) What programming language you need tot know to code Twitter?

    Thanks

    Good question.

All I know is that the guy who created it was a website pioneer and he sold some other site for BIG bucks to the tune of 8 figures so he was in tune with what to do and what to create.

As far as I know they earn NO revenue but just got $25 million for research or something.

This is almost always the result of an established marketing firm quietly doing marketing research through a proxy that is the "startup".

They fund projects like these until they get the information they're looking for about what large groups of people are doing, then they either pull the plug or try to recoup or further profit from their investment by selling the entity to a larger company like Google.

I think they never had to really advertise it after getting the first people to use it. You will hear quite much rumors on it about blogs and marketing boards

Exactly, Twitter has been one of "THE" most virally promoted sites - in the internet history. IMO anyways :)

One thing is for sure, Google officially has opened a Twitter account, and the first tweet came two days ago.
It has +- 42,000 followers as of today, but is following only 67.

    A big muscle.
