Good design for the global event directory. Sample sites?

Hi All

I am running a niche web-site on software development methods and I am thinking about adding an event calendar to it. The web-site is global in nature, yet has some particularly active countries. I would like to have:
1. Map overlay with filtering over a region and/or country
2. Filtering by dates naturally
2.1. And "coming soon"
3. A social voting component - some events are way more interesting, than the others

Now goes the question:
Could anybody advice event directory-like sites based on similar ideas? I would like to have a look at how people do it before starting the implementation. Number of events to manage - about couple per month to dozen per month.

I will also appreciate any other kind of advice. I am in the early concepting phase and the vision is still being formulated.

Not sure about anyone else but I read your post three times and am still not entirely sure what you are asking. Go to google and search to see if sites have that type of calender functionality, thats got to be quicker than posting on here and waiting for replies?
