I bet yahoo invested a lot of money into their Answers section. The script was likely built from scratch. Wordpress won't cut it I don't think... the only way I could think of would be to allow anyone to post, and then have the comment section for answers. Even then, I don't know how you would incorporate best answers and the point system and what not.

It's a custom script, just look for clones.

A competent developer could probably produce a simplified version of the "Answers" concept in a couple of weeks. It's not something I'm interested in doing at the moment, but I could probably produce a decent version using Perl with a Postgresql or MySQL back end in 1-2 weeks of evening coding.

Depending on how much traffic you're hoping to have using the service, attention will probably need to be paid to building a product that scales easily across multiple servers, but this can be addressed early if the product were developed from the start to sit behind a reverse proxy, hitting at least two back end content servers doing database replication. You'd need to refine it over time to iron out any load distribution issues that came up, but the basic ideas behind a product like this are all "solved problems."

    Good luck :).

load distribution should not be the concern because this is just a blog kind of things. So very few people would be accessing it at one time. Correct me if I am wrong

Dude its Yahoo..the name says it all...they have plenty of developers
to get things going, the start from scratch without the need of 3rd party software.
