Where you host your videos?

Just wondering, where you host your large videos (google, blip.tv, ... ) ?

I personally like blip.tv, just because it is simple and there is not time limit (but within 1GB size).

Note: youtube is not an option because it does not allow you to post videos with more than 10 Sec long (except if you are a partner).

    Thanks,

I personally Host my videos on Youtube, Vimeo, Revver, Viddler, Blip.tv and DailyMotion.

I like Youtube because of the highest quality (it retains the most quality of my H264 1280x720 quicktime .mov)

I like Blip.tv because it's second best, and as you said allows you to break 10 minutes (I haven't needed to yet).

What I like even more about Blip.tv is that it's got the ability to upload via FTP and a MUCH more professional dashboard for managing your videos than any of the other sites. I have a flaky connection, and being able to use FTP means I only have to try uploading it once, no matter how long it may take or pause half way through.

You've probably stumbled across the best host online - try to learn what settings keep the best quality on Blip and make your videos especially for blip

    10 seconds or 10 minutes?

Some of the other hosts allow you to d a full hour and whatnot, but who cares how long it is if the quality is 'unwatchable' when you're all said and done. My videos demand to be in the highest quality because I do screencasting so every detail on the screen needs to be legible and the text needs to be able to be read. Out of that whole list I wrote only Youtube and Blip offer quality high enough to meet that simple need.

While other subject matter might be able to be reduced more, I think my video should set a good standard for measuring quality because you can tell how easily my content would become totally useless with a bad encoder.

There is also full video hosting from source files on Archive.org.

Now, if what you're looking for is a high quailty video hosting solution and you want HD videos with lots of options, and you don't want Blip.tv, Vimeo+ (60$ a year) will allow large files sizes, and I believe at a cap of 2GB of content uploaded a week. also with Vimeo+ you are able to embed the HD videos on your own site, and I believe you can rebrand the player to suit your needs.

For me, Vimeo regular quality isn't enough, but if I was looking for a cheap paid hosting solution I'd go for Vimeo+ (if I hadn't found Blip).

As for your files, what format are you saving to? what resolution? from what program? There might be ways for your to cut your file size down *and* boost your quality depending on what you're currently doing. I regularily watch 30 or 40 minute shows saved as HD video in iTunes that are only 500mb because of the settings they are at - you ought to hit 1 hour of HD video before you hit 1gb.

Perhaps the people here can help you - I know there's a forum member JenniP who's a genius at video encoding and makes me look like a child wandering in the dark - lets hope this thread finds its way to her. :D

Anyway, good luck to you, I'd stick with Blip.tv as in theory it has the best uploading options of anybody, the best prices for the services (which rival paid solutions on other sites) and 1gb limit REALLY allows you to put more video than a full-hour TV episode would be, in high quality, if you do your homework and save it properly.

Amazon S3 is the cheapest, and best. And because of the scale of servers they have, you don't have to worry about bandwidth. It's pretty tricky to use unless you use a service like EZS3.com to create the player, manage the uploads, etc.

I also have many videos on youtube, viddler, etc. but I want to control the video myself.

My videos are all educational (free-to-broadcast) shows, they are anywhere between 20Min - 1.5Hour all in flv formats (converted from vob files).
What about google videos? I have not tried yet but it seems better than youtube in terms of the video size ...

It depends on what your want with your videos. If you want views, why not go AMOK and host on all of them? I personally use YouTube and LiveVideo.

Btw, I just discovered this site. http://www.loom.tv/

It aggregates from all the "big" video site. That could give you an idea of where to host your videos.

What is the best solution when I want to host videos that can only be viewed from my own website? I want to post teasers on youtube etc, but I want visitors to get full videos only when they come to my website.

Yes, but only for videos no longer that 10 Mints.

It gives only 1GB per month! ...

I've looked at this and suggested to use zshare, but I am not sure how can be used to embed videos from zshare? besides it will delete your file automatically if there is no use of 60 days !!

You need to find a host that gives you a direct link and an option to not share it to the publicly....

About 75% of my videos are hosted at youtube. If you need more storage on youtube, sign up for a youtube partner account. Partners can upload video files up to 1 hour 45 minutes in length.

Besides youtube, I have videos posted at veoh, break, meatacafe, dailymotion, my space video, yahoo video,,,,, and several others.

If your a youtube partner, you can upload larger videos then a regular youtube member.
