I wouldn't consider 1,000,000 results to be overly competitive however congrats I hope it brings you lots of traffic :)

Just out of interest what were the keywords that you are number 1 with.

    Thanks

Aye, what's MLM? If I put the name of my website name into Google I'll get _MY_ site -- no-one in their right mind would put that into google though. =|

xitanto mlm is if you look in my faq on my site.

    MLM f.a.q

    1. What does mlm stand for?
Mlm stands for multi level marketing (it is the same as network marketing)

    2. How does mlm work?
Well, there are many systems, but in general there is a product or a service people buy.
The way you buy these products/ services is unique, because they are sold by a “mlm'er”. He or she gets a profit for their sale, but if they find a "business partner” to work together with, then they will also get a little profit of their sales, and if the business partner finds another partner, the guy who started will also get a little profit from their sales. That’s the basics of mlm/ network marketing.

You should always check overture before you target a keyword. It shows there are zero searches for "mlmtip" and 6 searches for mlm tip. Being ranked for a keyword no one searches for won't do anything for you. Also, always check your position without quotes as very few people use them. Search results do not indicate how many actual searches are done for a particular keyword.

    Hi Kettner,

Good Keywords (do a google search) shows that "mlm tips" got 196 searches last month on Overture US, so although your site has got to number 1, you won't get much traffic from google.

The keyword "mlm" however got 66488 searches, but I suspect the competition for that keyword would be a lot fiercer.

I also had a look at your site, and every link I clicked on threw an error, I could not get to read the articles.

    Hope this helps.

I disagree that targetting a uncommon keyword to get indexed wont do anything for you..:p
On the contrary, to get indexed on google is tough, and finding an obsolete keyword is a GREAT way to get indexed, THEN you can tweak your page to start targeting other keywords that are more competitive. Too many people come out of the shoot going for the overly competitive keywords, then fail and blame the "Sandbox" for their troubles.
See, this cat just got in the index FAST, and did it right, whether or not it was intentional.;)

The keyword you target has nothing to do with getting you indexed. The sandbox only applies to any keyword google thinks is competitive - and getting indexed has nothing to do with the sandbox. The sandbox will make it hard to rank well for competitive terms, but a non-competitive term no one searches for won't bring you any traffic. Getting indexed in google is very easy (especially if you have original content) - just get backlinks. Ranking well for competitive terms just takes time and work.

Google has shown quite a preference for keywords in the domain lately, so you definitely picked the right domain name :)
