I have used a free wordpress theme on my blog. Is it legal to remove the name of the creator from the bottom of the template i.e. "Created by xxx" Tobias
its depend on how theme is released and i guess it must be mentioned in theme's readme that what changes you can do with it. refer http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html Code (markup):
its not nice by your side - he worked on that theme and in exchange wants a linkback to him, is that asking to much?
@crivion I agree, but I just want make a little less noticeable. The font and link is huge at the bottom.
IMHO it is not legal normally, no one will do anything for free. Free WP themes are released so that the creators can get exposure through the links. If you feel that the link and font are too large, don't use it, find another one that is small enough for you.
It is not legal to tamper with that area unless the owner says you can. If the owner finds out you have breached the terms he can take legal action for copyright infringment.
Putting a link in your site back to the author of the theme is just like saying thank you for the things he had created. Be cheerful. Only few people do that. Cheers!
