    Great list of services, I have used quite a few of these and they work great! You may also want to add BlogBuzzer.com as it allows the users to have their blogs automatically pinged.

    It is great for any site that has new data - it just so happens that blogs work well as they (should) have new data posted often.

    Sure, update your site or blog and then you 'ping' the services to let them know to send their crawlers/spiders to re-index your new content - make sense?

    I usually just use the automated ping URL that can be used in wordpress blog.

    Pinging tells the pinged source that you have new content and your sites needs to be re-crawled.
