See if you guys agree w/ me on backlinks when posting in forums: 1) Always backlink in a Do Follow forum. 2) Always backlink in an "On-Topic" forum. If I have a website about tanks, but post in a finance forum, this will never work (please debate this). 3) Use Anchor text and don't use it the same way. For an example, my anchor text could be "Quotes of General Patton" and in another forum, it should be "General Patton's Quotes". Always mix it up. 4) Backlink in different forums...never the same ones. 5) Never spam your links. Google will catch on...and so will the owner of the site. Anything you guys agree/disagree with? I would like to hear your response.
1) You are on this. 2) Relevance is important. but in my opinion a link is a link and at worse it will only give you traffic and no link juice serp wise. 3) different anchor text looks natural, but also give you possibility for multiple great serp results 4) the more backlinks you get the better. From different url is even better. 5) Spam post or comments will likely not be approved so it will not give a backlink.
Thank you for your reply. On #2, it seems like ppl in this forum are trying to get links on "non-topic" forums which I think in my own opinion, will not give them any link juice. Agree?
great tips.. I am following most of them, but i don't understand #4 u mean, from many high PR sites, as well as, many backlinks from same URL?
Relevance is overrated. If you post a link on a related forum, its a link. If you post a link on a non-related topic - its still a link. Even if you post in a forum that uses the nofollow tag, google still sees that link. It just does carry as much weight. There are a couple of forums that I posted in where the links are tagged with nofollow and they still show up in my google webmaster tools.
For indexing it doesn't matter if link is do follow or no follow, for link weight it does count... beside that, I agree with your list
Having a link in your signature here is doing your site a lot of good. Go check your google webmaster tools, and check the external links going back to your site. And then go check your backlinks in yahoo site explorer. Both tools should show all kinds of links from digital point. Some people like to do backlink building the hard way, and that is directory submission and social bookmarking. While posting in forums, and having a link in your signature is one of the easiest ways to build links.
Very good advice for everyone --- including myself. For some reason, DP accounts for 10% of the new links I'm seeing at GWT. I only spend 2% of my time here.......so I'd say the return on my time investment is good! I like the "Entertainment" forum: several threads contain KW of my site (music). Or if I started a thread entitled "Do you like Karaoke?" or "What's your favorite Karaoke Music song?" ---If the thread hasn't already been started, chances are your post will be indexed by Google very quickly. Even more hilarious......the PPC parasites (some of my competitors) end up in the Ad-Sense that sponsors this site! (Click away, my foreign friends....LOL)
Agree totally. I think the links for DP help alot. I came across this forum by checking on one of my competitions backlinks.
1) Always backlink in a Do Follow forum. Agree on this. 2) Always backlink in an "On-Topic" forum. If I have a website about tanks, but post in a finance forum, this will never work (please debate this). Relevant forum helps. But non relevant forums also proved to give better SERP. 3) Use Anchor text and don't use it the same way. For an example, my anchor text could be "Quotes of General Patton" and in another forum, it should be "General Patton's Quotes". Always mix it up. More variation is good. 4) Backlink in different forums...never the same ones. Yes. Agreed. 5) Never spam your links. Google will catch on...and so will the owner of the site. Yes. Agreed.
never thought about number 3, I think it makes sense, though I dont know hoe much sense, but I'll keep that in mind.
I'm not sure how much relevance the content has either, but I do agree with the spammy comments. Most of those don't get approved anyway.
Yeah..I agree on all the statements you stated. Another thing, it is very important to build a good reputation to all the forums you are posting so as to get a positive insight and trust in your site either.
