Commercial value of domain-keywords

    Hey guys,

I am looking to launch a tutorial website where I will sell some tutorial material. I have registered two domains: LearnXXXXX.com and XXXXXCourse.com (where XXXXX is my main keyword).

According to Google Keyword Tool, "learn XXXXXX" gets almost twice as many monthly searches than "XXXXXX course", so I am inclined to go for the former. However, it would seem to me that "course" is a more commercial-orientated keyword than "learn", and therefore the traffic coming from "XXXXX course" searches should be more inclined to actually purchase my tutorial stuff.

My question is: what's better, to get higher traffic or to get less traffic but potentially more buying-orientated?

    Thanks!

I am pretty sure that "learn" will give you more better traffic in terms of quality....

Why don't you create both sites and optimize their content according to the domain keyword? You'll win twice :)

Won't I get penalized by Google from duplicated content then? I must be missing something here. Care to explain please?

PS: the domain will host the typical landing page to advertise a tutorial online course, so it's pretty much a static site.

I thought you may create two different landing pages, both optimized for different keyword according to the domain name.

Of course you can't just copy-paste and make two identical sites withought being penalized. But if it's going to be a static landing page, it won't take so much time to create 2 different landing pages. I think it's worth it as it may potentially double your sales.

I had never thought of that. I wonder if it's feasible for me to do such thing. That way I could target both domain names...

It perhaps was not needed posting your Urls here because we can already know what you were talking about. Anyway, back to the discussion, it is not a great idea focusing over a single keyword because professional webmasters who have business sites are targeting several keywords because traffic comes with all of the terms when people use them in performing queries across the net.

I would create 2 different landing pages to get maximum exposure.

If I really have to just between the 2 domains, I would choose the "learn" one. I think it will bring you more traffic.
