If you want to put the same content you need to give credits to original provider same for design also. But, whatever you are doing get permission from the original version.

Cloning a design work is like using a single template for more websites.

    Cheers!

If you practically steal the same design and use the same images etc then yes it is classed as illegal. However using someones design as inspiration and modeling your design on theirs is ok providing it has its differences.

I am sure out of the billions of sites that a lot are similar to other sites just by chance anyway.

if you change the design and functionality of the site, i believe this is legal, not the exact clone with exact design and functionality though

Exact cloning maybe illegal but many still do it all the time without any problems. Its only when the clones get huge that the problem arises. Although recently a German clone of Facebook sold for 300milliion (the clone looked exactly like the old version of facebook.

You have to seek permission from the creator of the website. All the copyrights belong to the owner of the website, if you wish to copy it, then you must seek for a written permission.

If you have to copy a small portion from a website, then you must provide a link to the original source as well as mention the credit to the original source.

I would suggest you to clone if you really have value addition to the existing information. Like if you publish a research, you may use the existing material along with your value added.

would using the structure of the website be ok?

i have an idea, a website i use has some good features but they dont want to improve features or move forward, is it possible to use their structure as a base then, redesign around it? if at all possible!

cloning a website is illegal but getting inspiration and developing a similar one with better or diffrent images and frame work is always not illegal

about content in the website i should say you can re write the content but you can always give a backlink to the original content writers website

and we have to know that there is no one common law in every country to in some places you may getaway stealing a design but in some places you may not

    cheers

Yes it is illegal as design comes under intellectual property and it is protected by copyright laws.
