The main problem with campaigns that I've run is that when I find a good bid that brings me decent traffic and good CTR, the min bids seem to always go up, up, up until eventually it's not worth it.

If you don't have a good landing page, ROI will be low IMO :)

scaling a successful campaign is not always as simple as putting more money in and getting more out

One of the obvious main things to watch out for in PPC is that you don't spend more in advertising then you actually sell. If you go about it too quickly without taking the time to keep up with how much you are spending on clicks, and how many sells you are making, then by the end of the month you may be excited with a lot of sales you made using adwords, but find out you came out short (spent more in advertising costs than you were able to sell, so all the effort was in vain and a waste of time). So just keep track of your spending expenses and your actual sales. This is obvious, but easy to lose track of if you move too quickly.

The one thing I hate most about PPC is regular google slaps when they change their policy. Google: Don't ruin my QS instead pause my ads if they no longer match your policies. Then send me an email. Thank you!

I agree, testing and tweaking are essential.

Is the Google slap stil prevelent these days? you would think google is getting a little squimish with its arbitrary slap, due to the lawsuits its facing and the economy....

The search network is getting to unprofitable for newbies. I suggest focusing on the content network to start.

A major problem for me in PPC is waiting for campaigns to be reviewed before anything else can happen, im finding it seriously annoying.
