How much do you know already as far as uploading through ftp or using cPanel?

I would personally recomend wordpress.org..Just download it and open up the install instructions...If you have any questions, post them in this thread and we can help you through the process.

You could use blogspot or similar blog services.

I would also go for Wordpress. It's the best ;)

But just in case you want to see something else, MovableType (I'm not allowed to post the URL).
The only problem (for me) is the programming language. It's written in Perl and it's a bit slow.

Don't recommend that at all. You may get your account deleted and lose all your files. Blogspot is too much of a mess to be trusted.

would like to second Mike, but if you're just starting out, try blogger first. once you get the hang of blogging, and want to graduate to more serious ones, you may want to look into others like WP.

Yeah, use blogger to start out, but try to get the blog onto your own domain name :)

What is it you don't know? (You may have to be specific)

Do you have the url? Or is the installation not complete?

i think what jhona means is that s/he has clicked on the install button but don't know what to do next.

although i still seriously think you should start off with blogger.com to familiarise yourself with posting, editing, positioning, etc....to access your WP installation you need to know which directory you installed it in on your server. then it'll be .../directorywhereyouinstallWP/wp-login/ (someone please correct me if i'm wrong) to access the admin center where you can post, edit, etc.

as for uploading through FTP, first you need to have an FTP uploading program, like CuteFTP or a web editor like Dreamweaver. then you need to find out your server's FTP login (forgot the term) which comes together when you register with a webhost. you can ask them for those if you're not sure.

cPanel is just a (software? system?) that is a format of web hosting. i'm not too good in explaning so please bear with me. cPanel allows you to install scripts, programs like WP straight from the web without any FTP. to access the cpanel it's usually yourdomain.com/cpanel and the username and password should have been given to you.

among other things you can do in cPanel is upload webpages that you create offline. instead of using the FTP route. file manager i believe.

all these are barely scratching the surface so if you might want to try familiarising yourself with blogger and cpanel before venturing further. :)

Hi jhona, I think you should try to make your first blog, perhaps blogger. We can share about your problem or question later. Please, do this first little step... Good luck ;)

My personal experience: I use blogger then move to wordpress.
