Ok guys this is the question that has been in my mind for many days.
Why should we submit a quality article of length 600 or more and submit it to an article directory. Wont it generate more traffic if you publish the same article on your blog?
    thanks

Unless your blog is already have traffics, you can post the articles directly on your blog. If not, submitting articles to article directories give you more exposure because they do have more traffics.

Blog posts generally get indexed faster, and if you post your article to your own blog you will have full control and ownership of your content and if you're adding articles to others site means you are helping others rather than yourself.

The best thing would be to create maybe two 300 word articles from this 600 word blog post, whilst still posting the unique content to your blog.

Always post the article in your blog and then to the article directory as this would mean that you keep the ownership for the article both in your site and in teh article directory

Submitting your articles to the article directories will give you more exposure unless your blog already has a lot of traffic and is indexed high in the search engines. By putting articles on sites such as ezinearticles, you are relying on the "authority" of the website, and the best article directories all have pretty high page ranks. This means that if you write a keyword rich article and submit it to the article directories you have a better chance of getting list higher in the search engines, which is where the majority of your traffic will come from.

So you can do both, even for the same article? Can you create squidoo lens etc again all for the same content??

You have asked an interesting question. I think we must carefully evaluate the pros and cons. As far as I am concerned I will write my original articles for my blog and re write it to article directories. Article directories improve the chance of back links.. We need back links and traffic. Article directories provide quality back links to us.

    Here is what you do:

*As many blog posts as you can manage. (regular basis.)
*Write ten articles that are static to your site for internal links.
*Do an article marketing campaign as trends change. Ex: Every quarter write 10 keyword and SEO'ed articles. (if you must.)

Unless your a article marketing whiz that is usually reserved for those who are masters at affiliate marketing. Even those articles are getting the boot on places like Qassia and Ezine Articles. To me AD's are more for people who want to be recognized as writers and authors.

I've always been for and posted here many times that unless someone is paying you keep your material and intellectual property for yourself.

Also if you write a great article that is keyword researched you run the risk of that site coming up front page if not #1 instead of your site.

Depends on what you want and what you can live with.

I've tested article marketing, and as far as submitting to ADs, any boost in traffic is pretty short lived - unless it is compelling enough for other webmasters/bloggers to put your articles on their sites. The trouble, then, is that you really don't have much control over how your content is distributed. Regardless of what the ADs TOS say, webmasters will sometimes rip out the resource box (there goes your backlink), or put your article on a crap site that can actually damage your PR and SE ranking instead of helping it.

Some people swear by article marketing, and that's great. To me, the risks significantly outweigh the benefits. There are plenty of other was to promote your site.

This is also why you should optimize your articles for the keywords you want to rank for. With article marketing, you're not going so much for traffic that you get from the article directories themselves or from the articles being syndicated (although some people will point these out as benefits). The real benefit comes from the fact that places like Ezine Articles still tend to rank well in search engines, so if your article is optimized for keywords, you have a better chance of ranking well for those keywords.

Put in other words, you're focusing more on search engine traffic than article directory traffic.

As some people pointed out, it depends on how much traffic your blog has. But you could always just re-write the article a bit and use it on your blog and submit it to an article directory.
