Hello forumers. I found several domain names (with good keyword) for sale. Some of them are aged domain names (4 to 8 years old) but got no backlink and zero PR (pagerank). Some of them are 2 words domain name, some are 3 words domain. Are they good for investment? Any ideas? Thanks Arie
There is no age benefit if the domain has never been used - it is treated as a brand new domain. As far as investment potential, it depends on the actual name.
It the domain has never been used, it is just like registering a new domain. If it is a good domain name, then it might have potential. There are a lot of two and three word domains that are worthless.
Make sure those domains have never dropped. Since you say that they are keyword domains I guess you could raise a site and promote it.
Older Domain tend to rank better But in the end it all depends on Domain itself. If the domain is a generic/Commericial type and one can tell site topic just by reading domain name, Its worth is more.
QUALITY names are good for investment, not names that are for sale because it's aged or has PR. Look at past sales to get an idea of what types of names are quality.
Agreed, names with keywords that have high search volume is great for investment. But domains with high PR also count as far as i know. I heard somebody that are expert in SEO said aged domains are good.
Domains that have actually been used for years (have a website with content) can have an advantage. Domains that were registered years ago but never used, have no advantage over a brand new domain.
What do you mean no backlinks and 0 PR. There is a difference between PR 0 and PR n/a If it is PR 0 and has no backlinks whatsoever, I'd be alarmed. Looks like a domain that has had fake PR before the recent update. Or another possibility is that the domain name has been forwarding to another site. Anyway, if you're looking for a domain name that will help you to avoid sandbox, don't look at the PR, look if the domain has any pages indexed by Google. Just check SeoQuake or go to Google and search for site:yourdomain.com and see if it recognizes the name and returns any results. If it does not, there is no point paying money for such names.
The age of the domain, if never really used is irrelevant. What you can do with an old domain, is to see how many existing backlinks it has to the index page (as the other pages may or may not be left in place) using an SEO tool or Yahoo site explorer. Of course this does not mean you will get any benefit from them in the future, but if it is a keyword domain, it could speed up your re-seeding the domain with back links by contacting and securing existing ones first.
No one really knows if the domain age really matters. However I would say that high quality backlinks sometimes are more effective then an aged domain.
Yes they should have been renewed before they expire. Most link buyers and site buyers do not prefer dropped domains as it is not good from the perspective of SEO. I once regged at dropped domain and raised a site but google never indexed it even after several months. On the other hand I receive a fair amount of traffic for a site built on a dropped domain (3 drops).
