I have a theory about Anchor text that I think is very true Say you want to rank for "Blue Widgets" Now lets say.... you have all of your Title Tags, keywords in text, etc. all set..... and now you need backlinks Now.... lets say you have the choice between 2 backlinks to choose from: 1) A PR7 link to your URL, no anchor text, from an "authority site" 2) A PR4 link with the anchor text "Blue Widgets" from a pretty popular site My theory is this: #2 is by far a better option......... sure the PR7 is nice, but it doesnt give you anchor juice for your targeted keywords I have a bunch of PR6 PR5 etc. URL backlinks.... which I cant complain..... but it would be great if they had anchor text, itd make a huge difference
this largely depends on the links you already have. if you already have anchor text from other places the PR7 is probably better because it will bestow trust to your whole site, and all the other links will count more. if you already have lots of generic links without anchor text, then the PR4 might be better, for that term alone, anyway. both the PR4 and 7 link's strength will also depend on how many other links leave those pages. its not a simple answer and will always depend on the particular site you're working on.
I think it is really depend on Website Content Relevancy, if you get same niche , thats better than PR value.
I would so take the PR7 over the PR4 any day of the week. Anyone can get PR4 links back to their website - PR5+ are the hard ones to get.
i don think you would have to choose, having 1 url with anchor is 99% of the times not enough to rank high in serps. so having a mixture of both would be the best option in my opinion
Yeah you are right that the link with anchor text weighs more but see if you get a link from PR7 and your content/on page factors are supporting your keywrod than this PR7 links an do wonders for you
The difference between a PR4 and a PR7 link is so immense that I would be inclined to take the PR7 link, even without the desired anchor text.
I too would take the PR7 link. The PR7 link would greatly help your domain's overall link profile. This should give a rankings boost to a lot of your keywords. The targeted PR4 link mainly just helps the ranking for that one phrase.
Although PR7 link doesn't pass the link juice for the keyword that you are trying to rank for, it does pass the Page Rank. Getting a PR7 link to your site is very effective at increasing your domain or inner pages' PR.
You can get anchor text on PR4 sites relatively easily. I would take the link from the PR7 site over the PR4 anchor text link every time. I think it is much more valuable.
A non relevant PR7 link is not going to have much value as a dead on PR4 from a highly relevant site. The thing with theory and speculation concerning how a 3rd party operates..... is they are just theories.....
Setting aside the anchor text for a moment, PR is kind of like the Richter Scale for earthquakes. For example, a 5.0 earthquake is ten times stronger than a 4.0. A 6.0 quake is ten times as strong as a 5.0. Following that analogy to PR, a 7.0 earthquake is 1,000 times as strong as a 4.0 one. I'm not suggesting that PR tracks the exact same scale. However, it is commonly believed that, as with measuring earthquakes, a one-number increase in PR is multiple times stronger than the PR one number lower. A PR7 is dramatically stronger than a PR4 (exactly how much? Google knows.) The impact of a PR7 link, with or without my anchor text, would be too strong to let pass by.
Relevancy is important if the PR 7 is more relevant than PR 4 site, then I will go for PR7 with anchor text.
