Dolphin requires the following pre-requisites for your server:

* Linux/Unix (Red Hat, Debian, FreeBSD, Mandrake, etc.) or Windows OS, Apache Web Server

* Ability to run executable files (necessary for ffmpeg.exe)

* root SSH access (necessary for RMS installation)

* PHP 4.4.0/5.1.0 and higher (register_globals must be Off, safe_mode must be Off, exec() must be allowed and allow_url_fopen also must be On) with mbstring, domxml and xsl extensions (they are required to run Orca forum and support UTF-8)

* MySQL 4.1.2 and higher

* GD library compiled with TrueType fonts (for photo processing) or ImageMagick as an alternative

* Sendmail or Postfix

* shell or another interface for setting Cron Jobs

* 20MB of disk space and 1MB of MySQL DB space for installation

* 8MB of disk space and 50KB of MySQL DB space for an average user

 

There isn't a web host I know of, that's ever survived that will give a user on a shared account with root SSH access. Sorry...

 

IMO, Dolphin is a huge waste of time. The companies' main goal is to get you to pay for support.
(This might be OK, if their product was better and easier to install)

What about jailed SSH access, can you provide for secure FTP and secure connection to database?
Many shared hosts do this, and I've found several for no extra charge

 

Do you allow running nulled scripts? What about legal adult?

 

Yes, we can provide you jailed SSH access and secure cPanel. As for the secure FTP, you would need a dedicated IP from us, for us to generate you a SSL certificate. You could then use FTP securely.

To get this you would need to sign-up for either our $15.00 or $25.00 yearly packages, the $10.00 does not allow it.

Since we are located in the USA, no we do not allow nulled scripts. Legal adult material is allowed on our servers.

I did mean email addresses corresponding to our domains, yes. With other hosts I could simply add prefixes to my domain's root email, such as:

That is located under Email Accounts in the email section. You simply click the link and are able to make email accounts there.

 

Well I signed up under the $10 package today. Obviously I loved the price and the features...however, since the time i signed up things happened:
--- i can't go to host-monkey now. It says DNS error - cannot find server
--- sometimes it does go but after i put the info in client's login area...after I click login it takes me once more to DNS error - cannot find server
--- is this normal?
--- if this keeps going I would like a refund, that is possible no?

 

This is an error completely on your side, we have received 0% downtime since this server has been activated, and we have hypersin reports to prove it.

Host-Monkey.com is hosted on the Genesis server, our new server. It's downtime has been 0% and is checked every 5 minutes. I'm not sure why your getting downtime, although no it's not normal for this problem to arise.

Please open a ticket, if you can, otherwise PM me here and I will get this problem resolved for you as soon as possible.

 

Sorry if I'm missing something here, but there is no "Email Accounts" when I log in, I just see "My Emails". Also, I've used Cpanel before and I must say I don't recognise the client area/support area interface, this appears to be "WHMCompleteSolution's" GUI.

 

You have to look at your temporary IP address in the welcome email, it will give you your address to connect to cPanel.

WHMCompleteSolution is the billing system we use.

 

Upon request, the next 5 clients to sign up will be able to use FFMPEG, and run a video hosting website.

Just another way for us to offer good service to our friendly DP'ers.

 

Nice offer, but can that slow down the server for other clients?

 

We allocate our resources through multiple setups, so think of it as a VPS based setup.

Plus, with multiple processors and a backup server ready to carry over resources, clients will not experience any latency, or performance loss.

Here's a review and my opinion of host-monkey:

Despite a very low cost, let me assure you that no corners have been cut with regards to quality and service. Brand new software is offered with extensive functionality, any needed information is found with great ease, down-time and low latency are certainly no problem, as has been with other companies in the past, customer service is lightening fast, which, coupled with the low price is outstanding - as I've paid high for the big hosting companies out there whose hospitality and service goes no-where near this company's - and a fast server with capable hardware is a must within my field and this need is more than adequately met. In all, host-monkey masterfully balance and offer the wide range of software, and low, economies-of-scale cost expected from a large company, with the swift and friendly face-to-face customer service expected from a small company.

Top notch deal guys, thank you very much. I will be using this for a long time and for all future mmorpgs and other projects

As he was saying though, that's one of the advantages of going with Host-Monkey, we as very flexible and allow you to do majority of things, small hosts don't...

 

Looks very cheap. Any limitation? Like CPU usage? No of mysql connection?
I think you allow only one add-on domain. What's the price of extra addon domain? Do you allow wordpress Multiuser blog with mod rewrite?

 

We do have restrictions on CPU usage, and number of MySQL connections. Although do realize most of our settings can be tweaked for specific users as we like to work directly with our clients.

Addon domains are $1.00/year per domain, we do limit the amount of add-ons with our yearly packages.

We could work something out perhaps with the multi-user wordpress blog settings.
