I would like to make a news website for my industry. I like www.news.com.au website alot. How much would it cost to make a website like this? Does it use multiple databases like one for local, national and international news categories? I am familiar with wordpress and I know it has one database. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
the main investment is never about database, etc or even server cost are minimal compared to production cost the main investment is the NEWS as publisher, you better be your best editor and best journalist knowledgeable to an expert level about the topics you want to offer news including photography where apropriate travel where needed hence a news site-cost is mainly YOUR living/traveling/publishing cost = normally a few ten thousand US$ per year you need to be really GOOD because you need lots of traffic ( lots means a few ten thousand uv/day !! ) else you get no revenue to cover expense. hence excellency in SEO and all webmaster related skills are absolute prerequisite. if you think to take the cheap road and just rewrite what others have published already, then you fail. news.com.au most likely has some 100k uv / day or more some of the news pay be paid re-makes from official news-agencies = LOTS of experience and work involved to get half that way. and copying ideas from others is recipe for failure why should any one in the world go to your web site if there are dozens old established high G SERPS ranking news sties already out there ??
Thank you for your responses so I will read up on CMS and see whats it all about. I have limited experience with websites to date but know already copying content will not work from what i have read at this forum. My industry is quite specific but large and i have alot of contacts and sources for news from industry leaders. I just like the layout of the www.news.com.au and the color schemes they have used, but also with limited experience with wordpress, I didn't think that wordpress was capable of such a site. I will read up on CMS Thanks again.
It's also extremely essential to have experienced and on-time server administration and support in case of unexpected circumstances and for general day-to-day operations. Most of the time people assume the start-up costs only, but do not take into consideration the subsequent expenses. Best regards.
the cms itself won't cost you much, i guess like everyone said it would cost you a lot for the actual news.Copying content may not work in other niches but in the this niche,i don't think it matters.
I have no idea the exact cost of the site, but you will need/have staff, transportation costs, etc. I wanted to fortify what "it career" said about wordpress. Wordpress will not be able to do what you want to do. Joomla or Drupal will be able to handle your needs.
