Boy, what a fantastic opening! Did you see it? What a pleasant surprise! I never thought Hugh could sing and dance like that, he's really good on the floor, and he's pretty amazing (and charming), too, as a host. It's about time Oscars gets a younger, cuter host, hehhe, who could pull it off with some fresh antics and superb singing and dancing skills. Penelope Cruz was a winner! I mean, what a speech. She's a darling. Ann was a revelation. She's adorable. Ben Stiller littered...and was not himself. Sophia Loren still has it...just don't let her talk, lol. I love Steve Martin - he's always funny, trying hard not to be witty. I got his book, Pure Drivel. It's a riot. What happened to the other music talents? Beyonce is hot, but she's all over...I need a different act, a new and refreshing face...Charice would have been a good choice. She could have brought the house down... I love the presentation of the different categories...the way 5 great actors appear on stage to acknowledge the nominees and talk about their special qualities and contributions in the field of acting. It's a fresh idea: instead of talking about the role, they talk about the actor. And it was done live - not through a voice over or a recorded audio/video - by no less than the award-winning actors themselves in the corresponding category. Cool. Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: they didn't get an Oscar, but it's amazing how they both got nominated for the same categories in the same year. You just got to love this couple. It wasn't planned...I was moved to tears by Kate Winslet in the first installment of her speech...As she talks...I was looking for her youthful, innocent, pretty face in the Titanic...but clearly, she's turned into a different woman...a mature woman...and it's paying her well. Good for her. For me the soundtrack of TCC of Benjamin Button was the loveliest, but I guess it's the night of the Slumdog Millionaire. We just got to give it to our friends in India this time...Congratulations! Overall, a nice show...Hugh was outstanding, and cute (say it again, AG). There's more...but right now it's your turn.
The grandeur and comical opening by hugh jackman. the awards announced by steve martin.. humorous show.. really they did their best from the point of entertaining.
Yeah... And Wall-E! I love the classic songs there. Glad it got nominations. I forgot, did it won an award?
Oscars.. it was a proud day for India and Indians. AR Rehman winning that award has finally made a lot Indians happy. Slumdog winning so many awards is indeed commendable.
i think the oscars gone to right adress. slumdog m. is very good film. better than no country for old men.
It had to be one of the best Oscars nights I have seen in a while Hugh Jackman was just brilliant, he is educated in stage performing love the whole change that they came up with, and well put all you said on your post
humm: Yeah, you're right. It made not just a lot, but probably ALL Indians happy. It's time for India to shine, be known not only during international pageant nights; it's about time India opens up to the world and the world to open its doors to India. Change is a global thing now and we have seen it happen in the most exciting and most dreadful ways - talk about the election of the charming US President, Barack Obama, and the pervading recession that made its way even into the mightiest in the economic circle. Panthera: Indeed. I agree with you. After watching No Country For Old Men last year, I said, "Woow! What happened in there? I mean, what happened to the men and women of the Oscars who voted it as the best among the rest?"... I didn't get the message; I just couldn't get it no matter how I tried to be understanding and open-minded...and artistic. Perhaps I had such primitive taste, or I was not there enough to match their heights or fathom their wavelengths as experts or as human beings...Well, frankly, my dear, I don't care. It had a genre of its kind that had nothing to do with entertainment, which is really the main reason why I watch movies, in the first place. A horror or suspense-thriller could still be entertaining. After seeing that movie, I was left with memories of frightening scenes, yes, and it was really effective...but after realizing it went as far as getting the highest honor...I was left with disgust. I wanted to shoot the ones responsible. I haven't seen Slumdog Millionaire yet, but I am sure it's not going to make me gnash my teeth. raja.sekaran88: Really, what an awesome night. Kim-Webgirl: Seems we share the same feeling for Hugh Jackman here. Thanks for the appreciation. I feel I won an Oscar, too.
Its really awesome winning so much oscar, but why Indian were protesting against the movie, even Amitab Bachan (One of the legend of Bolly wood) spoke against the movie
A lot of people didn't agree with some parts shown in the movie hence the protest. You see every people have different opinions. The begging, cruel, shit, filth, prostitution shown in the movie is not all what mumbai is, there is a lot more good to mumbai. So there were argument that the movie only highlighted the bad of mumbai.
So would you negate that these things are not in Mumbai and what shown is i think the subject of the story, if you go with the theme/story you have to show the related things and that what you can find on the net " Mumbai as a rank 7th Dirtiest city in the world" Cheers
I don't argue, every coin has two side, every person has two opinion so does every city/country/place. That was the case with opinions about Slumdog too.
