I am using Avast Version 4.8 Home Edition alongwith ZoneAlarm Firewall. They both protect my pc.

Don't go to any p0rn sites for your own safety :p

Just purchased Kaspersky internet security 2009. it is the best for sure.
And about yr information getting leaked, like yr yahoo id got hacked, reason for that could be that hacker must have installed invisible Keylogger, which sends all yr keystrokes to the hacker. [ includes your passwords and Id] Kaspersky internet security has its on virtual keyboard which protects you from keyloggers.

Suggestion: Format your PC, install fresh Windows, and Buy kaspersky and use it, don't go for free antiviruses or cracked kaspersky or any other from warez sites, cause they already have keyloggers binded with them or the crack they issues with the pack. Just don't compromise with your security.

Keeping your PC secure? Use genuine software's, don't download and install crap. Don't surf crap, don't use IE lastly use a secure ISP.

You obviously know that a good av and firewall is important. :)

As someone already mentioned - true security can be reached only on *nix systems ( as you can check your app's source code at any time, to be sure that it's exactly the same what you thought ).

Come on .. Why he should crash his PC ( Microsoft updates are terrible ) ?

Linux isn't the answer to everything. You're still wide open to phishing and social engineering. If your site got hacked, it's most likely NOTHING to do with your OS.

Switching to Linux isn't something you do overnight. If you're already a Windows user, learn about your OS, discover the vulnerabilities, and learn how to fix them.

Is this thread about personal computer security, or a website being 'hacked'?

    Read the fifth post.

I don't think the OP knows what he/she is trying to secure.

Oh ! However, if it's his personal PC with web server on it, it's still a personal pc ( as it's used for something more than a web hosting ) :)

True. I didn't even consider that. If he is running a server on his home PC (which I doubt), judging by the level of security in place (AVG and 'firewall enabled'), then this is all going to end in tears ;)

    EDIT
    @ toxic1985:
Are you running your own server?
