Hi Today I need help from you and anyone from the DP community who is willing to help me. Here is the problem. I have a nice Wordpress site that has been active for about 3 years. A few days ago I started having problems with the site. - Database connection problems - Site constantly down and then it was accessible again - Contacted host and they said everything in order - Can access site with my Laptop but not with my wife's computer - Site very slow but now very fast on my computer I seriously don't know what to do. Why can I access my site on my computer and my wife can't access the site on her PC? Please help me get to the bottom of this problem. You can visit my site here, please tell me if you're getting error messages.
It's your host's server that can't handle something about your site or there are too many sites on that server (if shared). Contact your host. If he/she/it can't fix it...move to another host.
I've contacted Godaddy twice about this and both times they said there's nothing wrong... Initially I thought it might be a hosting problem, (I even thought about purchasing hosting somewhere else), but now I'm simply confused. Why is the site working on my PC and not on my wife's PC? This has never happen to me, I really don't know how to solve this problem.
I would avoid Go Daddy, They would charge me up the ass even when i had told them i was done with my site, They would still charge my card. I use gator now. I use a dedicated hosting from liquid web, Never had any issues, I have a Word press site from wordpress.org, No restrictions on the java script or anything, I can get on your site just fine, It's all in spanish though. You might have software and connection issues with your computers, Your site has over 4,000,000 views huh ? I pray to god your using Adsense or Adbrite, Whats your CPM ?
It's the computer. The one you are having problems with. Not the site itself. Clear cache Check cookies The scans for adware, spyware etc. If it is fine on other computers, and host is fine, then it has to be the computer. Make sure you have all the necessary browser plug ins current, flash, java, and all that jazz. Check your pop up blocker
Thanks everyone for your help. You don't know how much I appreciate this. Yes, my site has over 4 million page views to date. It receives around 7K visits per day and 320k page views per month. So you can see why I was panicking. This site represents something like 95% of my online earnings.
UPDATE I've installed a new Internet security suit on my wife's computer and still it can't visit the site. Who is this possible? Why would her computer be blocking our site? Has anyone else had problems visiting my site????
Personally I have never used GoDaddy, I use D9 Hosting because it was set up and is run by a couple of internet marketers - Paula Brett and Dan Thompson. Their support is also excellent.
I don't think it's a hosting problem, although I haven't completely rule this possibility. I've been using Godaddy for about 3 years and this is the first time I've had any problem with their hosting service.
I didn't have a problem accessing it at all. At least the good news is that it's not the site and people can still access it. You just have to relax, step back for a moment, and track down the problem on that particular computer.
I think I know what the problem is. A few days ago I updated from WP 2.7.0 to 2.7.1. For the first time I used the automatic update link. From that point things started going wrong. To make things worse, I also changed themes and made some major updates. In the end it was a big mess and everything just seemed to go wrong.
I know where you're coming from. I use Auto Updated for plug ins, but for Word Press updates, I still do it manually. I have never been able to get auto update to work right for the wordpress install. Also check to see if you have a lot of pages, or categories on your blog. I have had problems in the past with having too many pages that were either inactive, or that I was holding as drafts and it severely affected the loading of my blog.
That is a server problem, and if Go Daddy say's "all is well" they are stringing you along. That is plain as day. Once you get this up and running, I would highly recommend shopping around for a more "professional" host. From what I hear from others, Go Daddy crams too many sites on the same servers and I.P. addresses.
I'm reaching the same conclusion. I've been with them for about 3 years but maybe it's time to part ways. They worked flawlessly until now, but there is just to much money on the line for me. I've been asking all my friends to check my site to see if they encounter problems, and all have stated that they have found nothing wrong. I'll wait another day and if things persist I'll have to move hosts.
Yes I would say this is probably the host or a server setting issue.. What is probably happening, if you are in fact getting 7K visits per day, is that the host (being a shared server) has a type of limiter set up on the server.. And if there becomes too many consistent connections at one time to the page? Well than the server will switch the site off to some of those connections to maintain to set amount of allowed limited connections. I have seen this same thing happen on many shared hosts when having a high traffic page or site. I have seen that both gator and monster both have limiters on the shared servers.. I know because I have hit those limiters myself on those hosts.. It is a setting to mostly protect from DDOS or botnet attacks. This issue could also be possible that the problem is not enough allowed memory being given by the server to your directory. The php.ini setting is too low possibly? Do you know what you memory_limit is set at in the php.ini file? Might need to drop in a php.ini file and set the memory_limit configuration directive in php.ini file to 64M or add into your .htaccess file this: php_value memory_limit 64M See if that makes a difference? Boulder
That might be the problem. This site is quite popular and sometimes traffic passes the 7k mark. I checked and the server has over 400 domains hosted on it which certainly is not a good thing. The problem here is that finding a good host isn't an easy task. Nearly all hosts have their negative aspects and all lie about what is being offered.
Of course you are going to shop around, but check out Web Air. I have been with them now for over a year, and the have some good packages. Service is great. You can always get someone on the phone, and if there is a problem, service tickets are handled immediately and they keep you apprised of the situation until it is resolved. They are not a reseller, and can handle any size account. I have 42 sites hosted with them and have never had any major problems (that I didn't do myself ) By the way, just check with your Internet Service Provider to make sure there haven't been any outages or hub problems in your area. Just to cover all the bases.
Thanks hmansfield, I'll check them out. As for the last part of the puzzle. I've discovered why my wife's PC was unable to log on. For some unknown reason the site only allows one person to be logged on at a time. So if she wants to work on the site I must log off, and then everything works perfectly. This is very strange...
