Google will try to convince a judge on Friday to dismiss a lawsuit that challenges the heart of the company’s business: its methods for indexing and ranking Web pages.

How Google do and do not have index is up to Google. Any good web master wouldn't rely completely on Google, or any search engine for that matter. Its a privolige to be indexed, not a right.

(I only read the first few paragraphs, so shoot me if I'm way off topic. xP)

I didn't read it, but from my interpretation of your post it'd be like someone taking a lawsuit against a grocery store for charging $.89 a can of soup instead of $.77 cents

A companys business is just that, their own business.

While I think the threat of one search engine exercising biased editorial control is the reason we need robust competition in the search engine market, I hope this case gets summarily thrown out of court with prejudice. This is a frivolous case by a web publisher who probably got caught using black hat SEO practices.

There's a bit more to this story. I believe that it's google's reply to the lawsuit already opened.

What do you think? wouldn't it make spammer's life more easier? they are already getting billios of pages indexed.

    Wow.

I think your qoute is a recognition by Google that they have lost focus and have neglected to manage their search engine efforts appropriately. This is something many of us are complaining about on a dialy basis in these threads. I guess I'll have to stop calling for their eventual downfall if they are truly going to refocus on providing good search results.

As for "revealing the mysteries" of how their system works, they will reveal just enough to keep people off their backs...

Excellent article endurer. Sheds some insight on what *might* happen in the near future. While yes, it may be ammo for spammers (they are actually having a hay day), it would be invaluable as a webmaster to have that information.

How can people go and sue a website for not getting them enough free traffic? He should go sue DMOZ instead for time wasting.

Am I the only person who thinks this lawsuit is secretly instigated by Google?

Why would they do that you ask, well:
    1. So they can get free major media publicity which would cost more than their legal fees.
    2. To set up a precident in this kind of case, so if they were to be sued in the future they could use that precident in their favor.

Notice this is one of the very few lawsuites that Google has not settled out of court.

    No proof, just an opinion.

I get few up with these law suits against Google for not including sites in their index. I'm not exactly Google's biggest fan, but it's completely up to them who they put in their index.

I have a feeling half of these 'cases' are just an excuse to write up a press release and get some type-in traffic.

I'm off to sue DMOZ, Adobe and Google for not having index links to all of my sites! :)

There are millions of stake holders.
I think Google must abide by some rules and regulations for indexing.
They must not be given free hand.

That's just it, there ARE no rules for indexing. Does anyone tell you what to put on your website?

Plz so Google will win. Google is flexing their muscles to see how far they can go in this matter in indexing whether or not they brought up the lawsuit themselves secretly.

How many times did The GateMeister/ Bill Gates of Microsoft get sued. It just sounds like common practice to sue big companies. Especially at moments when they lossen up their belt buckle to breath.

And yeah it would be nice for me to screw with Google and the way they index their pages with my sites as well. This last round of indexing and PR is driving me nuts. One moment my site is there - the next its not - than back up again. Same with PR - one moment I have a PR next moment they are saying wtf - why do you deserve a PR.

It just would be nice to see Google be stable in who they index and do PR. Sometimes I just feel they like to toy with us. Take us for a little rollar coaster ride knowing how boring it can get behind my computer monitor and keyboard.

It's funny how they are suing over their loss in Adsense revenue but they it looks like they haven't read Google's recommendations on optimizing Adsense ads. A banner shaped ad set in the default colors says "Please click me 0.01% of the time".

Oh how I wish they'd come here and read some posts like "How I used haplf of my brain and quadrupled my Adsense revenue."

Yeah, and they are explaining it to 12 people who couldn't figure out how to get out of jury duty.

Question from the sequestered jury: "What does Al Gore's rhythm have to do with kinder-whatever? We don't get it."
