Like title says, what is the uses of building a squidoo lens and what should and should not be done ?
Squidoo is yet another way to get a few backlinks and some targeted traffic. Make sure you publish some unique content and your lenses will rank well in Google.
Be sure to utilize Hubpages as well in addition to Squidoo. It's a similar website with a high page rank.
Squidoo will give you some decent backlinks and some modest traffic. I had 109 unique visitors from one Squidoo lens last month.
How do you promote a squidoo lens so it becomes popular and bring traffics and juice to your backlinks ?
Yes, fully agree, it's great for backlinks and targetted traffic. I don't agree about unique content though, I put duplicate content all over web 2.0 sites and rank fantastically well. The easiest way to do this is to use other web 2.0 sites linking to your squidoo lens. The lens will rank well in it's own right, but if you link to it from popular web 2.0 sites like wetpaint.com, tumblr.com, etc you will help push your lens higher up into the search rankings. I would mention that in my opinion whilst squidoo is still ranking very well for us, we are finding less click throughs to our target offers because the visitor has so many choices to click on when arriving on a squidoo lens. These days we are tending to use squidoo mainly for backlinks, and use a website like wetpaint.com (for example) that is not "as busy" as a squidoo lens so that we end up getting more clicks through to our money page. Squidoo can be used as a landing page for a affiliate product, a blog, but most people use it as a backlink to their main website. Google ranks Squidoo pages fairly well, so if you're starting out and don't have a lot of money Squidoo is a great place to start. Like others have said, be sure to make use of Hubpages too, which is basically the same thing.
