The guy got his sign back that reads "Abort Obama Not the Unborn" later that day..

Then the Secret Service paid a visit to make sure that the gentleman was not a member of any hate group.

What is a hate group in their eyes?

None of this surprises me in the least!!!!! (Freedom of speech is long gone)

Asking for the killing "abort" the president will get you questioned by the SS. The cops did the right thing.

I am with freedom of expression, as long as it is not extreme or asking for the death of anyone.

I've seen plenty of Bush hate signs, maybe not that strong, but I'm sure they exist

Bull shit. Maybe you should read up on neo-nazi history.

When the government gets to define what is "extreme" that is when you'll be hiding in your attic like Anne Frank. The fact that disgusting liberals admit abortion is killing is so ironic. But hey, hypocrisy is coincidentally as much a fad as the worship of our new Messiah.

This is over reacting. Obama should not be discriminated against just because of his skin color BUT Obama should not be given special treatment just because of his skin color too! If everyone has to be pull over for such bumper signs. I guess during Bush era, there won't be enough police officer to go around the roads! They would need to mobilize the National Guards and the reserves.

Here in the US, it is the job of the government that we elect to choose what is extreme, what is allowed, and what is not.

Take capital punishment for example. Some people view it as extreme while others view it as justice.

Just imagine what will happen if we leave the defining to normal citizens? We would have to vote on a referendum every day of our lives.

    Peace,

I like how the people who support Obama & support this overreaction by police believe:

    Abort Obama (joke) means kill.

    but

To abort a baby is just abort (non lethal:rolleyes:)

Abort can be simply mean don't support Obama (abort him)

I think the point isn't what Obama supporters believe "abort" means, it's what the owner of the sticker thinks it means. And he clearly thinks it means to kill someone.

"free speech" my ass. The police officers did the right thing in this instance. This guy is a tool. If he doesn't like Obama, that's fine, but "abort Obama" is taking it too far. That sounds to me like an incitation of violence. It seems reasonable to me that the Secret Service would check him out and make sure he's not planning anything ... These sorts of nut cases are the most dangerous people in America right now. See Oklahoma City 1995.

To top it off, the guy says that "abort Obama' just means he thinks Obama should be impeached. For what exactly? FACE MEET PALM. This guy is a moron.

Abortion of a fetus is not murder. "Abortion" of a 47 year old man is.

He's not being given special treatment because of his skin color. He's being given special treatment because he is The President of the United States. You are not allowed to threaten the life of the President in this way, and for very good reason. This has nothing to do with race. I heard of a guy being visited by the Secret Service for repeating the line from the Bible about "a burning Bush" in a bar when ol moron Dubya was President. Again, they take such things seriously... If you look at history and how many assassination attempts there have been on the President you would see they have every reason to be concerned.

Since when has the word "abort" ever had any sort of meaning like "don't support." People who are against choice (and I'd be amazed if this guy wasn't such a person) think of abortion as murder. So it's clear what he meant by "abort Obama."

And equating what a woman decides with her own reproduction to the killing of a 47 year old man is truly disturbed thought. Truly disturbed. The more I think about it, the more I think the police did the right thing.

And as far people saying that people did the same thing with Bush... nah. I never once saw any Bush bumper sticker or shirt that made that kind of threat. And yes I saw those TShirts that were linked to. I've never seen anyone wear anything like that, and I would agree that those shirts are not acceptable.

But I would say that... people who had hatred for Bush (and I was and am one of them) did so for real reasons. What in the hell could Obama possibly have done in this first month to create such hatred? Nothing. No one hated Bush like this after a month. He had to do a LOT of really screwed up stuff to gain the hate he received. He earned it. Obama has not. He just hasn't. No matter how much Obama haters want to pretend like he deserves it, he doesn't. He just doesn't. And they know it. It's sad watching these people spin their wheels trying to come up with a rational reason for their insane anger.

You can't "abort" a 47 year old man (in the way you are thinking) if you knew what "abort" meant.

You're clearly admitting however that abortion and murder are interchangeable.

I am not admitting that abortion and murder are interchangeable - I'm saying they are interchangeable to SOMEONE LIKE THIS. They are not interchangeable to me. They are interchangeable to the person saying it. And that's what matters in communication. Understanding what the person is trying to communicate. In this case this person was communicating a physical threat against our President.

No wonder you voted for Obama....

I really hope your kidding. Free speech my ass? That's the whole crux of free speech. I have the RIGHT to say things, even things that offend you. And so what if it's taking it too far, with free speech you have to take the good with the bad otherwise IT WOULDN'T BE FREE SPEECH. I shouldn't be consored because your little Obama-loving feelings were hurt.

Too many people these days think they should be allowed to control others because their mommies babied them too much as kids and their wittle baby feelings get hurt. Get over it. Your feelings, hell everyone's feelings, are going to get hurt from time to time. I'd rather hurt your feelings than have the government telling me what I can watch, read, or listen to.

Despite what your mommy told you, your feelings are NOT more important than the entire country's right to free speech.....

"Ab*rt" Obama as used on the bumper sticker means to abort the Obama agenda on abortion.

The Kill Bush t-shirts are worse along with the leftist rhetoric that was used against Bush.

Ahhhh I understand. Abortion and murder ARE interchangeable when it can benefit the socialist left's agenda, and in this case make a victim out of the president.

Everybody's a victim in some way or another.

No. You are wrong. It has nothing to do with offending me. You could say "Obama is a moron" that's fine. I don't care, that's protected by free speech. Speech which provokes violence is NOT protected and never has been.

Yea, it promotes violence because you can really abort a grown man. And abort has more meanings than just aborting a fetus. It could also mean KICK HIM OUT OF THE WHITE HOUSE, which is not violent at all. If you interpret everything people say as hateful, violent, or racist you're going to end up playing "victim" your entire life....
