I wouldn't do such a site. Also I quickly leave such sites. Which music is good, well at the very least that one that doesn't make babies cry. What kind of music would I compose? ..... you guessed it. Dark pages don't leave pleasant feelings in people IMO. Google and Shawn would be the first to implement them IF they were good. Just my opinion on the issue.
It is all about the colors on your background Thise page leaves bad feelings hehe ? http://www.cssheaven.com
That's an excellent example. See how almost flawlessly blended the ads are with the text in the right column? And maybe it's just me, but I find the dark colors soothing.
I just tried that six shooters media template I posted earlier jack and with white fonts it just doesn't feel right. It kind of hurt my eyes. It seems that designer optimized it already but I agree that text is hardly visible .... maybe on crt it is looking better
Here's a visual example of a Wordpress blog template that more or less matches what I was suggesting: Notice the green in the outer background, which helps to soothe out the dark grey of the inside boxes. You through an Adsense box in the black background, with white fonts, and you got yourself a high CTR site.
We're going to build our next info site with this formatting, here's hoping it turns some numbers. Thanks for the tip, Mr Burton! (I love that movie!)
I like the tip and I will try it out. If you are using CSS (Which you should be) changing around the colors should be effortless.
Thanks for the tips and examples, might give this a try on one of our sites we are currently redesigning.
AdsenseGold suggested one of the best formats as follows: google_ad_width = 336; google_ad_height = 280; google_ad_format = "336x280_as"; google_ad_type = "text"; google_ad_channel =""; google_color_border = "FFFFFF"; google_color_bg = "FFFFFF"; google_color_link = "000080"; google_color_url = "999999"; google_color_text = "000000";
Remove your affiliate link before the mod does. Next time practice some proper forum etiquette and stop trying to make a buck off your fellow webmasters.
I think that depends on the sort of site your building. If it was a forum where users visit frequently and usability is a concern then i think these sort of sites would not suit white on black. However if its a MFA site where most of your traffic is one time visitors from the SEs then its is a nice way of getting a high CTR.
Good catch Jack. I remember seeing him post this a few days ago I see the same affiliate link here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1044310&postcount=15 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1002639&postcount=5 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showpost.php?p=1024321&postcount=3
Just adding a alternative suggestion here for the ones that are also not into placing a black background on their pages and using white fonts. And the color contrast may pay of even if a white background is being used. You know experimenting
Jack, good tip. I have always thought that the coloer scheme would work well, however I have not had a chance to implement it. I remember a thread which mentioned this site http://www.fastcoolcars.com/ that employs your suggestions, with exellent results. I am going to try it.
jack the link for funny videos in my sig already with black background and white links but can u suggest the colors of url and text in the main page also the intire pages and if u see something in colors needs to be changed ?
Hi, I use back background in all my pages, of course also in adsense. In case of 336 it has a ratio of 8% (with 4 small images on the left) check it out http://www.cualquiera.com.ar/videolinks/copa-toon-tevez.html
