How can i improve my website?

Hey guys, i'm new to this whole SEO thing. I have done some research into it previously, but it was only basic stuff. I thought that content was the master of all SEO, from what little i researched, and that your page titles should closely reflect your content, which mine does, but i still do not have any traffic coming to my site...

I own a bunch of sites that are not quite ready for prime time, but two of them are ready (MyRoladex.com and LinuxIntro.com). The one that i am concerned about is LinuxIntro.com. If you go to the main page, you see that there is nothing but relative content, and links to various articles/lessons. If you go to the lessons (except for the new lessons that i just uploaded the videos for, because i still have not typed out the articles), for example, if you clicked the "Start your journey" link on the front page, you will see that for the most part, my articles are very extensive, and very content-oriented. I do not link to other websites (unless making a citation, or referencing something that the user may want to download in order to perform a task), and i don't have any "affiliate" crap. My website is ALL ABOUT CONTENT, but yet, i still have no traffic?...

I have thought about changing the way i write my URLs. Right now, i give each article a unique number, and i also store other information with it, such as the next and prev article if it is a series, the article's title, etc, but the article itself is identified by its unique number. Well, i have taken notice of many websites like Wikipedia and About.com actually using an article's TITLE as the URL to the article. I know that search engines look at the url when making decisions, but is it really that important? I would hate to use that system, because i like using the article id system that i use (for example: LinuxIntro.com?a=ViewEntry&name=346518813024), and i just wonder if it really even makes that much of a difference. I thought that it was the page's title, content, and meta-description (as i have read that the meta-keyword tag is usually ignored altogether) was what most engines looked at. I thought they checked the title and description tags to see that they actually match the page's *written content*, and if so, they give it a good rank, only if the content itself is good content.

I know that the articles that i have finished and written out completely are "good content", so i'm still stuck on why i am not getting any traffic. I would welcome any tips and advice.

    Thanx

Have you submitted your sites to any search engines at all? You have to let the search engines know that you exist in order for them to KNOW about you. Getting traffic to your site also depend on how 'popular' you are. Putting links on other sites so that people can see you does help too. All other forms of advertising can also help you. I have pay-per-click advertising campaigns with Yahoo and Google.
    My site is www.inmate-connection.com

    Regards,
    Keith.

Here is the "secret" to rank well in Google:

    1. Buy a decent domain with your main keyword in it.
    2. Publish original content with your keywords here and there.
    3. Build quality backlinks and wait for some time to pass.

Keep buidling backlinks and most importantly publishing original content nonstop until you hit Google top3 :)

Yeah, i did a search for url/se submission, and i eliminated any and all websites that are NOT search engines (for example, se marketing sites), and came up with a list of about 25 search engine's submission pages, and submitted every one of my websites to each of the search engines. That was years ago. Also, every time i do a major website upgrade, or change its structure significantly, i re submit to all of them.

I have had almost 2 years, and i have over 113 articles. Shouldn't that give me *something* by now? As far as backlinx, i have linx to my sites in my signature in all the forums that i am a member of (Linux forums, web dev forums, etc), and other websites that i am a member of. Also, at the bottom of each of my websites, in the footer, is a link to most of my other websites.

    Thanx

It's hard to speak without even know the URL but are you sure you're targeting the right keywords (relatively low competition and high search volume)?
