Where do I put my keywords?

Am I limited to the number of keywords in the pages on my site? I have not added any more keywords since I had the site built 6 yrs ago. Can I add more 'keywords here to get more traffic? This is what is currently there:
<META name="keywords" content="write a prisoner pen pal penpal prison inmate connection male female">

Is this the same as 'meta tags'? Do I put commas between the words? How do I add more keywords? I am still learning so please feed me as much information as possible.
    My webiste is www.inmate-connection.com

    Thanks,
    Keith.

You will get more traffic if you publish some new original content.
New keywords in the meta tags will hardly drive more traffic. Google ignore them completely.

I agree with zexy. Meta keywords for the most part have been phased out. They are not as important as they once were. To get more traffic work at getting more backlinks with those new keywords. Your rankings are mostly based on your backlinks. Adding more unique content to your website can also help.

Look into some of these link building strategies: article submission, press releases, blog commenting, social bookmarking, link baiting, forum signatures, etc.

META Keyword never work at all so do not give more attention on it.

Put your keywords on META description and Page Title and ALT tag.

What is the difference, then? If we are on page one of Google, don't we get good traffic? Yikes, I thought I understood things but maybe I don't!
