google keyword vs wordtracker...

    I've been doing some keyword research and I am finding very different results from the google keyword tool located here: http://www.google.com/sktool/#keywords vs the same term in wordtracker.

    As an example:

    garmin gps

    G = 230,000 monthly searches
    W= 60,000 monthly searches

    Why such a huge descrepancy?

    Any insight from DP members would be appreciated.

    Unfortunately it is tough to get accurate keyword search volume stats. These tools round off numbers and make estimations. You just have to take these stats with a grain of salt. Use them to compare between keywords, but don't rely on them to tell you exactly how much traffic to expect from a keyword. Make a spreadsheet with data from both tools and make decisions based on all available data.

    One good way to get a gauge on accurate data is to try ppc for those keywords even if only temporarily.

    From my personal experience Google always exaggerate with the numbers. Always!
    I think it's because they include some data from their content network as well. It's an AdWords tool after all.
    Go for Wordtracker it's far more realistic.

    Hi all,

    I think Go for google as they will give you right information on any keyword and about Wordtracker see there about page you will find this "All search terms are collected from the major metacrawlers - Dogpile and Metacrawler.", So they don't know how many people search a keyword on google :)

    Thanks

    They collect data difference resources so they give different result. Google keyword research tool and wordtracker both are good key word research tools.
