I've heard Frontpage is nice. I even think some hosts include it as part of their package. If they don't, they may include other website builders. If you can get your hands on Dreamweaver and Photoshop then you have yourself the most widely used software for web making. (Its not that easy to just "use," but Adobe usually has tutorials on it and dreamweaver has a visual editor where you can drag and drop images and such and position them to your desired location.

I think they have active trials available on Adobe too.

There are several free ones available like coffeecup, pagebreeze but dreamweaver is the best.

Hi ... FrontPage may not be with us for long, that is, supported by MS. Expression Web 2.0 solves many of the problems of FP, which was intended for hugh sites, at the time of development, which were, wow, 18MG in total size. There are tales kicking that FP collapses at 3-4 GB sites. For the smallest sites, FP is good. For larger, sites Expression Web 2.0, PhotoShop or Dreamweaver. Good luck.

You should learn how to code properly. Whatever you do, don't use a WYSIWYG/visual/drag and drop editor.

Get a TEXT based editor with FTP (like PSPad, or use the code editor in Dreamweaver), and noodle around with live pages on your server, viewing them in a REAL browser as you make changes. This is really the only way you'll learn how to 'do it right'.

Design your site in something like Photoshop (or PhotoFiltre/GIMP - both are free), then learn how to make it happen by coding it, BY HAND!
Don't become a slave to a specific application, learn to 'see' a website by looking at the code.

Learn to code by hand, you must :)

I agree, use some tutorials and learn how to hand code.

I use Aptana Studio for html and css coding.

roflmao! love the avatar(although i don't know what the text means, nor can i remember which country the flag on left is..i know the right)

True true. When i started to teach myself coding..I'm still learning i decided to hand code over using dreamweaver(I have dreamweaver).

Handcoding teaches you what code controls what, plus you write leaner code(or at least try to lol)

Kompozer is the best for free... else try Dreamweaver or WeBuilder.
