Due to the huge volume in the last week (All I can say is Wow ), Sponsor links are getting approved with 4 business hours but free listings can take up to 3-5 days.

I do have a few questions though:

1) Don't you get harassed by the bots submitting over and over?
2) Did you obtain the categories somehow, or was it all just hard manual labor?
3) What files do you change in order to get the urls so good looking?

yes, which is why the window of review is slowly growing...I am writing a ban by ip and email feature for that script though which will cut the times back to normal

Pretty much manual labour although I still have a lot of work cleaning them up further.

Do you mean the mod rewrite? I think thats pretty much standard with the site-sift script although I modified it slightly in order to incorporate more words and fewer numbers.

 

I ask because I had the best feeling of success this last weekend spending the wee hours between 0500 and 0800 when everybody else was sleeping, trying - and succeeding - in getting the bots to disappear from view in my Hot Gossip Directory (this is not a Side Sift script, sadly).

What I did was basically change the page where the list of submitted titles are shown for approval so that I don't see bot-submissions any more. I still get the total number and as such I can still see the number of bot-submittals climbing steadily, but I don't get bothered the least anymore (feels good I tell ya), and when I have about a thousand or so I'll go in through phpMyAdmin and run a SQL query that I made to find them all in one go and just delete them.

I know the feeling, I used to have a Biz Directory script which I thought was great at first but was a pain to customize (Plus its really feature poor) - I choose the Site-Sift script because its really easy to customize.

Been there, done that with the previous script...lol

PS. I am currently coding a feature where anyone can Sponsor any listing they choose with one click of the mouse. I'm pretty sure no one will be charitable and sponsor other peoples listings but what it does mean is you can Sponsor one of your previously submitted listing without going through all the hassle of setting up an account, etc. Should be done in the next day or two!

Yes, providing two things:

1.) Its a resource that offers something the main url doesn't, such as a forum or a blog

2.) It's not abused, this isn't an oppurtinity to submit a site map. If I see multiple deep urls for no reason other then to submit all of your pages, all of your listings get deleted. I think most people know the conditions for entering a deep link.
