Hi I was wondering if anyone had any opinion on how hard it would be to KO Wikipedia out of the top stop on a certain keyword (two words). Anyone have success?

If you know how to get good backlinks, this is fairly easy. Usually a wikipedia page will not have the most optimized backlinks & anchor text. Check the number of backlinks that the wikipedia page has. Then work at building more links than that, especially from high quality websites. It may still take some time to surpass them, but it is far from being impossible. Depending on the niche, some wikipedia pages would have much stronger link profiles.

I want to beat WIKI for the term:

How Does Google Make Money? I even have the domain.. See signature.. but I can't get past them.. I was at #12 at one point..but now I'm at 150..:( Is it bad to install Cafinated Coffee to autoblog? Cuz it's really lowered my ranking after I installed it!

Ah mate, it'se easy to beat wiki.
Why? Because usually it's not optimized to SE's. Usually they have few backlinks as well. Your biggest concern would be good content. Note also that many blogs usually point to wiki articles, so back check them in site explorer and get your link on them.
Of course it'll be hard to beat wiki on a term like coffee or electronics, or fiber optics etc as those are all hotly contested.
    Good luck,

It's not to difficult to bump them if its two words. Even some blog commenting could help you achieve that depending on how competitive those kw's are.

I didn't see Wikipedia in results for this query... Here: http://www.google.com/search?q=How+...avclient-ff&ie=UTF-8&rlz=1B3GGGL_enBY299BY300

Seriously, you are just promoting your blog :D

I'd be lying if I was saying I didn't try to promote anything. Cuz i have it on my signature and i'm always trying to [promote sites.

But in my questioning, it was a valid question trying to find a way to beat WIKI. Right now WIKIAnswer is above my site. (ranked 150 - was 15 the first day).

I'm asking mainly cuz I have other domain names that have high searches that I haven't developed yet..but wanted to find ways to set it up right so I would beat the Actualy Wikieapedia..and Wiki Answers in position. Those thing appear on the top on most of my other domains that I plan on developing.

I know how important it is to be number one.. even on low volume search terms.. For example Home Price Trend gets about 700 searchs a month on all search engines.. and it takes in about 500 of those clicks.. so imagine if I optimized for search terms that were averaging 10,000 searchs a month.. I should have lots of search engine targeted clicks! That excites me.

so any additional help would be cool..

I would say very difficult, even if you do beat them, it probably wouldn't last long.

that is an old, established site with tons of content, your gonna have a hard time getting google to like you more for any extended period of time.

Well, partially... It's far more easier to outrank Wikipedia in Yahoo than in Google.
Try to edit the Wikipedia article, remove some internal links, etc. It works sometimes, just fly under the radar :)

I think wikipedia has penetrated in the market & cyberspace so deep that it will be not an easy task to outbeat it,however it is not impossible also to do so...:)

It's possible. I've done it with a few. IMO, it may help if the keywords you're using aren't the article's actual name, but just a redirect to it.

For example, if your site is about "preferred shares" - Wikipedia also has an article on that, but "preferred shares" is only the redirect to the actual article name which is "preferred stock" in this case. I would think that Wikipedia tends to do better for the particular terms of the article's actual name, although they still may rank well for alternate terms as well.

In the above case, they actually rank at the top for both terms, so maybe it was a bad example. :p

Yeah,to be at the top there is alot of work ahead. But its just a matter of time. Get some quality-links and maybe rearrange some of your content that you doesnt have the same as wiki?
