Your advices are great but I am not so sure about directories because most of them are requiring payment and even if you want to submit your site at free directories you will wait more than a month for confirmation.
I have been working so hard - to only go back one I did have a pr3- now i am at a pr2 I wonder if less work is better karen
Karen, no it is not like that, this is really time consuming. It took about 5 years for 5PR for our site
I had PR4 on 6 month old proxy domain. Then the VPS went down when i was offline for a week and lost the data. and i tempory redirected it and lost PR Also one tip for everyone.
I agree that PR is important for Google but it is not the main index, using other SEO tips you can get first places in the list with PR3))
5th tip is most important. Many webmasters expect quick improvements because they are spending money with proclaimed SEO experts I wouldn't think number 2 is an essential (though I include it for my sites).
Depending on what type of sites you are submiting there are some free great nichie directorys out there that have good traffic as well but your site must be up to a decent standard. What i have found is directories are mostly just Luck. But look at it this way in a few months time when u need just more vital backlinks then the submission email will hopefuly drop into your inbox.
I see what you mean but seems that the 5th is not a task but a characteristics of an SEO guy. And it covers the previous 4 simple but hard and time-consuming tasks. Among tasks you list I personally think the first one is crucial and must be done carefully. Still see here and there guys claiming "you like those keywords, OK, i'll certainly help boost them to top 1 within x months" Really admire them!
hmmm.. I still prefer using SEO tricks.. A biut of secret tricks that are helpful in generating traffic and increasing ranking.. LOL!

I think they were very nice to post these tips for the beginners I also wanted to add - watch the directories you submit to. Now days "everyone" calls their site a directory when often times they are just a link farm, which is not good news to have your site related to.

hi karen and other newbies, please take courage in the knowledge that google is now favoring new sites alot more and a month old site can attain a pr 3 within 1 mth if it is close to the google pr update. older sites (less than 12 mths old) do tend to drop in rank if you have not maintained the link building effort on a CONSISTENT basis.... like the old tale slow and steady wins the race @Copymoves I agree once you have experience; then seo tricks can work well if you understand them, but you only ever do them on your own sites
PR is not the final goal. Ranking high for your key search terms is. Build links using keywords in anchor text.
