Interesting concept. I would suggest making your site a little more exciting. Since your content doesn't require heavy reading, you could use lots pictures/graphics.
defenately the colors are hard on the eyes. You need to chage them otherwise some day noone will visit it
Hmm, Well you haven't been swamped with advice really have you? I'd agree with what has been said - more graphics. the colours - well I don't find them so much hard on the eyes as flat. You might want to reconsider Titles - Use Polls, free polls or website polls on the homepage for example. I don't get the point to the site jumping out at me when I open the page. If you were not a DP member, I'd have clicked off straight away. Why not take one poll, a hot topic, get some buzz going about it and use that as a graphic on your homepage for a start. Trawl through some good photo sites for girls gossiping or giggling, get some human attraction on there. What about rethinking your intro too. It's not very exciting and maybe not selling the 'free polls for your website' enough. Create a poll yourself that is going to cause some disagreement, emotion or strong feelings based on what is in the news. You might consider asking DP members to vote on it (if they like you and you've been a helpful member here, I think you'll get some takers). Then offer the poll, live to a relevant site. Suppose Fox hunting - (neither timely, not that pertinent to the US, but just an example) that sticks in my craw. I am dead set against it. On the other hand the arguments for fox hunting can be compelling and those in favour very vocal. Maybe you could offer the same poll to two opposing sites? Or a poll on What do people really think about Dubya! You know - stir things up then get some action going wherever you hang out. Make the site more compelling, think on SEO a bit more, get more action in there anyway. Even if you are making up the polls yourself and calling yourself every name from A to Z, get more happening. Kids - they love this kind of thing. With a little bit of googling I found a teen site written by 13 years olds and up. The site is a PR 6 with no polls on it. I am not going to give you the url, because you have to be responsible for how you approach this kind of thing. If you get a couple of good teens sites using your polls, I reckon that's would be a big help for you on getting new members. If you do decide to go this route though, you must be sure that the rest of your site is squeaky clean. So, sorry for the rambling. Just some random thoughts.
I agree. I also really like the concept -- but it needs a very exciting site-- which some how doesnt come across.
Thanks for all of the input. Will have to get on those changes, but the 4th of July is calling early. Can you hear him? Crack goes the beer.
Not sure if I should post this here, but maybe some of you can help me get started in creating new members. If any of you were willing to create a new account on the site (free), and then create a poll about anything (free) I would give it a free sponsorship. Sponsorship lets the poll receive 10,000 votes, and then never gets deleted. It also gets your link on the poll as its sponsor. I'll also give popularity credit for joining, and will give sponsorship credit as well. Popularity points work toward winning a prize at $300 value. Send me a pm if you decide to take me up on it. Here is a link to the site so you don't have to scroll up: http://www.apopularitycontest.com
