I don't think it will be that easy to make money from a site.

Also as I said my friend is not doing this to make money he is doing this to help me make money.

After i read your posts guys, I'm more worried now than I was any other time before. :)

I don't think people should be paid to post. I don't mind having contest but paying people to post is link bribing them to come to your forums.

Terrible idea, I own a "BIG-BOARD" listed forum and it has been in the top 100 forums in terms of posts (in a given week) Over three years it has not even made $6,000 from Adsense.

I wouldn't spend that much money on a new forums. You could get your forums up and make 500$/month from advertisements in a few months without the need of paying thousands. Then use that money to make it grow.

Making money from forums is notoriously difficult. You would need a VERY popular community to reach $5000 per month in revenue. It's not impossible, but very risky.

meh... screw that, just buy 2000 domains(refering to cheap a $2 .info) and set proxies up on each and every one of them. You'll make your money back in no time.... theres just the ton of work though.... and hosting.

It means that in 3 years you only made $6.000 that is less than $167 a month. I make way more than that from my websites.

Are you sure this is correct?

I don't rely on adsense or such on my main forum income.
Start selling banner spot manually on your forum, imho.

    Depends on the forum.
I start on $100-$200 / month for each banner.
But most of the advertisers are online betting websites which earn thousands a month, so $100-$200 for them is affordable :)
So i guess start identifying your advertisers, and start setting your own price.

I don't think i could find someone willing to pay $100 to $200 to advertise on my forums, no matter what traffic I have.

You are lucky to get people like that to do it on yours.

Forums are tough to make money from. I know a guy who runs a forum that has about 800 members come by daily and he only makes around 2,800 a month from it. Most forums have around 100 members at most come by daily if it is trafficked well. I don't think you need to spend so much on link building for a forum as a forum is more about building members who will make quality posts and come back at least a few times a week. Bad thing is on a website where people come back over and over you do not have many new people coming to your website, which in-turn means 90 percent of your daily visitors are ad-blind.

I have monetized forums via CPM advertising with a few adsense links in-between the posts. Also I will give this up since I do not run a forum anymore. I also placed a 468x60 banner into the coding so it would show up in the second persons signature who posted, making it seem like it was just a regular banner in their signature and it had a CTR of about 1% which is really high for a below the fold forum advertisement.

I make more from text link sales than I do from Adsense ($10/month per sitewide text link on over 650,000 pages)

I was factoring in Adsense revenues only.
