Hi! Today I was very surprised because the traffic on one of my affiliate sites sky-rocketed! I then checked the referers and saw that the origin were mostly email. I also saw some spam report in the google groups. Obviously a spammer copied one of my articles published on my blog, but didn't remove the last sentence which says like: visit my site now URL blabla The people now might think that we sent the spam. How should I react? Take down my site?
Don't take down your site. Make sure you send emails to all the spamdex web sites (theres about 30 major ones) as well as google, yahoo, and msn/hotmail letting them know what happened. They should be able to trace the email throught the mail server that was used. I'd recommend you change your passwords though, especially for your email on your site to make sure it doesn't go through there. good thin is, you got high traffic
Steven, if your site is reported to a spam network your Anti Virus Software wil say something along the lines of the site send unsolicited emails. Not only that, your emails will not go through, and eventually you'll have 0 traffic.
There is nothing to be worried. What if someone sends SPAM mails and include Microsoft.com's link in them ?? I dont think any search engine is going to blacklist Microsoft. But ofcourse they will blacklist the mailserver IP Just chill
hi chip of course microsoft.com is not very realistic, because it's a well-known authority-site.. but let's say if you get a viagra spam mail with your article in it saying "buy viagra from viagraverycheap.com now" in the last sentence which is your domain... but with the spammers phone numbers under it ... it would be very reasonable to assume that the domain-owner sent the e-mail because the domain belongs to you and you also match the offer?
I dont think mail service providers like gmail and yahoo use different spam algo for microsoft.com and other websites. Nyways I am pretty much sure that its not going to effect your site just enjoy the traffic []
