Is blog commenting blackhat?

Discussion in 'Search Engine Optimization' started by GlennChan, Feb 17, 2009.

Ok so suppose you make a legitimate comment on a blog or website (e.g. on topic, adds to the discussion) and for the anchor text you put in your keywords, e.g. "WoW gold".

    In your opinion:
    1- Is that blackhat?
Because honestly, the reason you are doing this is to manipulate the search engine.

    2- Is it unethical??

I feel it's unethical more than black hat. However, if your writing a quality comment than you deserve the link and the blogger should approve your comment, unless of course they are your competition ;)

    it just touched blackhat.
Use a tool/script to comment on 1000 blogs and it's deeper inside.
blackhat seo just means to get advantage and actually BH SEO is the way to success imho.
You can be one of millions, or one of a few. What's better?:)

I don't think that leaving a good, relevant comment in a blog is blackhat.
But using a keyword instead of your real name may be unethical.

you're too vague in your description of the blog comments, obviously there are going to be mostly legit comments, if you post a legit comment then you should be able to link and/or link with your "name"

If you are posting comment according to topic mention or relevant to post and also the keyword you use is also relevant to that post then it will not be unethical or blackhat and you will get the backlink for that post.

    NO
If its unethical to comment why one has a comment area in his blog.
Its black hat only when you use auto commenting.
It may be unethical if you submit a stupd comment for just link like great post etc etc

commenting for the sake of it is not the right thing to do. If the comment is a genuine one, then -as lakelandprinting has said - you deserve a link.

you should get rewarded for supplying free content to the blog. Th eleast he can do is give you a backlink, and respect your choice of name (as long as it doesn't contravene and real laws, of course).

Unless it is not automated, it is ok :) Some say commenting on blogs are spammy technique use by some webmasters, but for me it depends on the relevancy of the comment to the post.

automated blog comments are an absolute pain!! my blog used to get 50 of these a day so anything automated, not related to the post etc.... I would consider blackhat as it was a pain clearing out all the emails "you have a comment on" when they were all spam

Blog commenting can be considered as black hat technique if you leave unrelated links, too many links and irrelevant comments on a blog...
