Does the name (domain name) of the site matter, regarding search engine positioning..... ie should you add your keywords to you domain name, if possible?. I am in the process of starting a website and I am not sure if it is necessary to add the site's keywords in the domain. Also, the site is a forum, and I want to know should I make forum plural....ie "forums". Any input would be helpful.
Thanks... I found my answer. I discovered that the domain name has nothing to do with positioning or keywords. It's what's on the page that counts. Right? Thanks
You need to check if people are looking for the keyword with 'forum' or 'forums'. It's good to have keyword in your domain name.
Errrmmmm... this is a weird one. It doesn't MATTER but I personally would include the keyword in the URL yes! Depends how well you SEO.
I agree with Charlie, always try to include keywords in your domain if possible. When you search Google for 'search engine rankings' you'll notice the 9th position is searchenginerankings.net and in the results you'll notice the keywords are boldface. So, I would say that they are a factor in getting ranked higher.
inurl and allinurl match does help best when in the domain name. It can also be achieved with keyword in a deep link path. You can also pick a keyword synonyms. I would choose the one that is easiest to remember and type and is keyword rich. keywordforum.com synonymforum.com/keyword <- double up forum.com/keyword nokeywords.com/keyword I do believe googles parser does take url into consideration when ranking and if you get sitelink for your domain name you can own a huge chuck of the top serp.
I think it's ridiculous how much weight is given to keywords in the domain name. I have a competitor with a ONE page site, no backlinks, no seo whatsoever and he's right behind me on search and my site has hundreds of pages, lots of backlinks, everything right. It's stupid. All because his domain is exact keyword.
There are two reasons for putting your keywords in the domain name. 1. You get a small boost from the search engine algorithms. 2. When people give you a link to your site they often use your domain name as the anchor text. I.e. if your domain is www.mydomain.com then the anchor text is often "My Domain". This really helps in the search engines.
It mattter, a lot. Technically it shouldn't but it does for several reasons. 1. If it is an old domain then this will be the site context so no link devaluing for this topic 2. When submitting to any decent directory or when you get a genuine link (whats that I hear some of you gasp) they will only use the site title as an anchor. So guess what.... If your site is called "Cheapairlinetickets" it has a tremendous advantage over the one called "cyclinginberlin" if the former is what you are targetting. I would go as far to say that in good hands you cannot beat a site with the mainkeywords in the domain name. This is why subs work too, mainly not down to the actual keyword but just down to how individual webmasters link to it. Two often overlooked factors too are 1. Customers/ readers will scan the G 10 subconsiously and you will have higher clickthrough even at ranks 4 - 9 or adwords than if the domain is unrealated to the keyword. 2. Where there is a high cost adwords keyword, there is a greater chance if you reach #1 on G that you will get site links, with an exponential rise in traffic.
