I am going to make $1000/month from my forum!

Making $1000/month from advertising is my goal for Berkshire Hathaway Forum, now what are some of the more immediate goals that I should have in order to reach my goal? Here are some ideas I have, but I need more ideas :

    1. Diversify, Google Adsense isn't enough.

    2. Add more solid (non-forum) based content via both informational articles and blog type format. This should drive great traffic with high conversion rates assuming that the content is related to the forum (which it will be).

    3. Create interesting videos related to your forum topic to drive some traffic via YouTube.

    4. Continue to link to other websites to increase your page rank. They key is to develop real relationships with other site admins so that they actually link back to you.

    5. Maybe create a store that sells products related to the forum topic. This has potential, but will be difficult to execute. But the conversion rate of traffic to membership should be high since the audience will once again be targeted and relevant to the forum.

    6. Create a facebook group - Berkshire Hathaway Forum group. Feel free to join, I'm looking for international members. This should be great considering that it's almost time for the Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder meeting.

Ok, those were the only ideas I have so far. Please give me hints, suggestions or any other comments. Please be as specific as possible!! What type of click through rate should I be seeing from quality traffic? Right now, the rate is less than 1.00%. How many page impressions should I be seeing? Right now I probably see anywhere from 1000 - 3000 page impressions per day during the weekdays and probably about 500 - 1000 on the weekends. Most of the traffic is US based, average time on the site is around 1 to 2 minutes and the bounce rates are fairly high.

Berkshire Hathaway is Warren Buffett's corporation. Though this may seem like a very small niche in finance, it really isn't. Warren Buffett is really such a folk hero and such a successful investor that he's probably the most influential guy in finance. All investing is at some point related to the things that Warren Buffett has preached. I think this forum could have a significant reach, especially if we can continue to attract sophisticated investors willing to exchange investment ideas and investment knowledge.

    I NEED HELP!!!

its really hard to get forum started.. but don't hesitate to dream big.. before you begin something make a plan don't just jump to the conclusion of making money.. first traffic and regular members then think about money..its been around 6 months and i haven't still placed ads on my forums i get around 1000+ UV per day.. i'm just focusing on bringing regular members ..when your forums gets going with some crazy addicts members then think about the money...

this is how i think...sorry if you don't agree...

You are going on the right way.. but first get vbulletin an a good design.. that will add more traffic..

    Two questions:

    1. Is the design on my current forum so bad that it harms the experience? Based on my personal experiences, I don't care much how the forum looks, but if it looks great, it can help. So...I always assumed that the look of the forum didn't hurt much, but could help.

    2. How do you convert browsers into members? One thing I did was creating polls, where you could only vote if you were a member, but that met with tepid results. Next idea is to have weekly "investment ideas" only available to members.

I have no problems with what you're saying, it makes a lot of sense. I love hearing ideas from others. There's something refreshing about listening to someone else think. My $goal is to help me succeed. To stretch my comfort level - but at the same time I take the goal very seriously.

On the facebook note, I would go with a facebook page, vs group. You'll have many more options with a page.

What's the "catch?" $100 seems like a lot of advertising bucks for my start up forum at this point. If there's no catch $100 could go a long way.

Thank you. Do you have any thoughts on how to develop a forum with "huge readership?" In general or specific to an investment forum.

make sure to add more categories when you get more members
but keep it low for now so people can interact with each other more easily

I would suggest give up both these points. They add no value..Finance guys are not great targets from Youtube..Which investor would browse through Youtube videos for advice?

Since you have an investors' forum, I would suggest a 'BUY of the day', 'SELL of the day' kind of posts everyday , so that people keep coming back to check which stock is hot and which is not..you build a memberbase that is going to come back loyally.

Also, check out the Forex affiliate programs. They can really convert with your audience..

Lastly, I would suggest contacting related advertisers directly. At least put up an empty ad block tat says 'Your ad here' and link it to a ad-sales page asking people to contact you directly for advertising...
