Why Google began sending less visitor to my site?

Discussion in 'Google' started by radioheart, Feb 11, 2009.

    Dear all,
    My website is turkishweekly.net
Google has been sending more visitors to my site until January 30.
It was around 17K per day, but now it is only 6K per day.
What do I have to do? Does anybody have any idea how could this happen?
Why google does such a thing?
If you guys have any idea, I'll be happy to hear that.
    Thanks y'all in advance.

If you compare, using google's webmasterl tools, its like you will find that your site dont get as much as good SER (search engine results) as when you get more traffic. For some reason (a new algo?) many sites has lost some of their traffic.

I've noticed it as well. Traffic is off 66% on Google Searches the last few days. However, when I check my page's ranking it's still right up there at number 1 or 2 for the keywords folks have traditionally used to find my site. So, either less people are using Google for searches or Google Analytics is suddenly off by a factor of 2 or 3.

Direct links are running at the same traffic level they traditionally have as are referral sites. It's only search engines that have dipped.

Could it be that people are finally realizing there's a massive recession, or is Google's reporting all screwed up? I can't think of another reason for this.

Yah I actually heard from a well known internet marketer that google has just changed there algorithm again. Google is getting ridiculous they change things all the time. I think the change had something to do with fresh links so that new pages can work there way up or something. IDK? I will check into their algorithm now.

Google indexes my website very quick. Google Crawlers are always on my site. When I search a title of a news, it shows on the first page. For example; Please google "Kosovo Security Council is Inaugurated" (i can not give links yet)
I do not understand what the problem is? Am I doing something wrong?
    Thanks guys!

edit: hit is going down, yesterdays hit is 4K

I am experiencing the same phenomenon. I had one blog site that is suddenly snubbed by Google. Google must have changed its rules to rank pages. Some people say it's related with bad economic times. I think we should start thinking and behaving as if Google did not exist. If we rely too much on Google to send us traffic, we might as well just get frustrated in the end.

check your site's keywords if there are phishing sites that appears on the results...or check for possible spam injections....some ugly person must have found a hole on your server..check your .htaccess...

Google has changed its algorithms around xmas to cut out all the spam. So it could be that your site has come up as an alert and you are being penialised for an issue on your site:

    Selling links on your site
    Duplicate content
    Keyword spamming
Linked to a "bad neighbourhood network"
    Building up backlinks too quickly
Maybe the optimisation on your site has changed
Too many backlinks with the same Anchor link could be seen as spam

An interesting article Matt Cutts from Google spam team wrote about the "Google Bomb" effect, that they switch on every 6 months to cut out spam and penialise sites. I think they must of ran this system around xmas, as my site got the "page 6 penalty" around mid Jan

The number of visitors are decreasing day-by-day. Its now around 3K. I'm getting crazy :)
We do not sell links ever never. For duplicate content, sometimes same news unwillingly added
by our different editors twice! Is that a big deal?
I don't spend time on backlinks. It happens by natural ways (blogs, social bookmarking, etc.)

I think you are making some mistakes, may be some changes in your website that is not acceptable to google. You should check your keywords also.

Using the reason of "linking to bad neighbor" to penalize a site is unfair. Any of your competitors could just link your site to bad neighbor without you knowing it. I hope Google would use its common sense in that aspect, that is if common sense is still common these days.
