I'm having difficulty getting my WikiPedia listing kept on the site. I understand they have terms that prevent certain businesses from being listed, but I see many other companies in the same/similar niches on WikiPedia. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Unless you have something special to offer, it is unlikely to get your name listed. Please don;t treat wikipedia as a marketing tool, it is not meant to be one!
I've tried this as well. They have really fuzzy rules on companies and people they decide to keep on there, based on public interest. I can see why they deny small companies, but some of the celebrities they exclude is kind of weird. I think you have to hit "household name" status to be kept on there. I would suggest contacting them and ask about it.
Be 100% sure that it's nowhere near 'advertising' style. Link to other articles from your page... it can be kept there, but you gotta make it really non-ad page. Really neutral.
They state quite clearly that they do not want you posting your own site. It doesn't even have to be promotional, if someone can tell that a principal figure at XYZ added his/her company it will likely come down regardless of whether it is a household name. There is a lot of strict protocol and many people donate a lot of their time to keep it clean so they have a vested interest in not letting the value slip. If a new user shows up and posts info on XYZ company but doesn't contribute elsewhere, it's a red flag. I would speculate that the best strategy would be to spend months on other pages you know something about adding small pieces of relevant info here and there. Once you've developed some credibility, you might be able to sneak in a reference to your own site. A lot of work for little reward which is why it is so highly regarded...no one wants to go through the trouble.
If you're registered users and start contributing wikipedia with useful content and relevant inks supporting to the content, there is good chances to get there.
I've tried to add my site's description in Lithuanian wikipedia (lt.wikipedia.org) few month ago, but my article was removed, I asked why and got the answer that only sites with higher then few thousands visitors per day could be listed at wikipedia, because pages like these are already well-known.
Wikipedia has VERY strict regulations on what can and cannot be a "linked to" site on the references of any wikipedia page. Although there are "experts" that claim to be able to get any site in, unless it's a legitimately informative and useful site, it's tough cookies
Before submitting links you should read the wiki guideline, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:External_links I've placed few relevant links of my blog summarizing the contents in external links and that still remain there since last two years.
Hi, I really wouldn't bother trying. Wikipedia will just delete your company if it isn't a big household name. Its just the way they are, and i personally think thats a good thing, as i wouldn't want wikipedia to be over-run with spammers.
That's right, if you make a page like Game Produces says, chances that it will not be deleted are much higher.
Yeah, usually it should not be you (company owner) who writes and introduces the company, but a tert person who does it objectively. So make sure not to look promotional.
there should be someone on this forum who provide this as a service ? like a reputed person o wikipedia cant review our sites for a small fee and add the links to relevant wikiedia pages ?
I think as soon as something like this got out there would be a backlash on Wikipedia against anything that editor posted.
Please don't do that. Keep Wiki as it is without those spammy SEO efforts. Wiki has been a great resource, let it be that way.
Thanks for the feedback everyone! I heard companies shouldn't be listed, but with dozens of them in the same space on there, I was curious as to what the actual rules were. Looks like we're out of luck for now, but hopefully in time someone will list us as a credible affiliate news source, too!
You'd have to be very well established with 100% unique content. You're also going to have to worry about competing webmasters that have the authority to remove your links to promote their own. Ahhhh.. good ol' competition.
