ok, here is a quick breakdown i have been in the field of design from web design to html to print and even programming and its safe to say, IF and only IF you live in California, jobs as a designer are so available, i do not know where to start, there are 3 major agencies here in los angeles, that find you jobs as a designer and programmer, making anywhere from 30 to 70 $ an hour, i am on the list of these agencies, and of course they do a background check on you, a full resume and portfolio is required etc. but as you know, the economy is pretty messed up right now, but for some reason, companies are still looking to hire people like you, so just a quick not to all of you, if you live in LA, PM me and i will send you the top 3 agencies that hire on a daily base, and if you live outside of CA, i am sure its the same, just a quick boos for all of you, dont give up
you can get rich if you know, make, create and sell web design. I have a friends that afford to buy an iMac just for his web design skill. There are many things that you need to learn in web design. The most harder skill is the codeing side. I really sucks on it
hmm.. I'm 13 and I created this website (I did all the coding too): dreamwarez.co.uk By the time I'm 20 will I able to get a job with these agencies? (If they're still around that is)
Why would you do that, LA is where its at! If you kept at it and learnt correctly by the age of 20 you would probably be creating you own programming language or something
yes it is very important to first learn, then make and then earn from web design, there are no short cuts and a note to Andy...stick with it buddy and by the time you are 20 who knows what you could be doing ay
hmm, do you think I could sell my services (building websites) for £10 per site if they were the same standard as my current site dreamwarez.co.uk?
I'll tell you now, you don't have to be a genius at html to become rich. You've just gotta be able to sell it well, that's all.
Yep. It is quite obvious by your post. That is a RIDICULOUSLY low cost for a website. With costs that low you will never make any money. And you will get CHEAPSKATE customers wanting something for nothing. The QUALITY customers will not even think of buying your sites as they know that they will get what they pay for - essentially nothing at that price.
I freakin want to move there desperately :'( As onixz100 said, stop dreaming about becoming a multi-millionaire and work on your skills. Learn design by examining the sites your browse. Does DigitalPoint have huge ugly boxes? NO, why your site does then? Be optmistic and professional. Think of gradients, color schemes, rectangles, shapes and icons. Making money through any kind of freelancing, design for me, is from the most awesome and creative ways to spend your time. Good luck to all your fellow designers.
I don't charge a lot because I enjoy it. I do it because I'm passionate about it, not because I want to make lots of cash. I'd put in the same effort for £10 as I would £50. I'm not dreaming about becoming a multi-million air, I just want some extra cash. If I was dreaming about becoming a multi-million air I wouldn't be selling my services for £10 per site. Also, can you elaborate on the ugly boxes? Where? I use gradients and color schemes in my design. The navigation box has a gradient overlay, the border has a gradient (blue to white) & I only use 4 colors. Can you teach me something about gradients/color schemes?
That depends on how you define rich? If a full-time job is what you mean by it, I'd say 70% of us are rich.
