Do you actually use Directories?

So here's a question that may be undermining the very idea of directories:
Does anyone ACTUALLY use them? Other than for submitting links, of course.

To the people that run them: Do you see a lot of visitors coming in to actually search? Does search engine traffic send people your way? Do you get visitors coming from reciprocal links?

To the people that submit to them: Do you ever get any visitors coming to your site from these directories? Is there any value other than PR and backlinks?

 

Well i actualy get some trafic from some webdirectorys , the rest is for Pr and search engines higher positions witch is good brings trafic
And no the people to visit my directory just submit ...

 

i don't use em, and most my traffic is bots and submissions

 

Good question. I don't use directories, except to submit sites to.

But I own one. Why, because I make money sellingg featured links and from Adsense. And people keep submitting sites at the rate of 50 a day, so someone thinks directories are necessary.

So, directories are really link generators, I guess.

 

I sometimes use DMOZ to search for sites that I cannot find in Google. Despite all the problems with DMOZ, they do have a very diverse directory.

 

I do frequently visit Yahoo's directory to search for stuff. Occaisionally DMOZ as well.

Most people that visit my directories aren't there to do any searching, and if they do search, it probably to look up a listing of theirs.

And my sites do get some search engine traffic.

I get a few visitors daily from direcotry submissions I have made in the past. You won't get alot of traffic from your submissions, but you will certainly get something if you are listed in hundreds of directories.

 

I almost never use a directory to find stuff. When I do it is out of desperation because I couldn't find it via search engines.

 

It never even crosses my mind of using a directroy to tell you the truth. But im in the directory business if you can call it that.

 

In between submitting to directories i have occassionaly checked out other sites while im there, for example it will have a good list of relevant sites that i could exchange links with, and of course their useful for finding more directories.

So i do use them at times.

 

TopSites Directories. I get alot of visitors from, as you can see on my footer i am loaded with topsites. I do check what is listed on TOpSites to submit my directory. A good resources if you ask me.

For a directory I use mainly Google and Yahoo and a few DP listed members directory owners...I wont even bother with DMOZ.org(bleh)

 

On Alive Directory, I get A LOT of traffic for the search phrase shopping resources, hundreds per day. I also get traffic for the search music hosting. A lot of other smaller ones. So, I know it is getting real visitor traffic. As for myself, the only time I browse them is to find other directories.

 

Nice Question,.. I Use a few like Dmoz, Yahoo, joeant, alive directory etc.. sometimes to find stuff.

 

I run a directory - http://www.happywebmaster.com . It is quite new as of now so I don't think I am getting any real users who are looking for some real info. except submitting their sites.

From some of the link I do get some real traffic but it is not much comparing to the directories I have submitted my sites. But getting a free link from another site never hurts... it helps increasing the value of your sites in search engines and if you get some traffic from these directories than it is a bonus

 

I personally never use a directory. But i htink this is due to 99.99% of them looking like a mess of spam. And you constantly have people purchasing good domain names and putting there cookie cutter spam directory up on the site. So when ever i see a directory i authomatically hit the back button like a reflex.

 

I do occasionally use directories, but it's a rare event for me. They need to be fairly large resources to be of any help, and well categorised.

 

I manually submit to many, nearly over 200 now. It gets me alot of traffic

Yes,
I used dmoz and yahoo, plus some niche directories.

I also receive some traffic from some italian directories for my italian sites and some traffic from niche directories.

As an Owner of a sport related directory from my logs, my directory are sending a lot of traffic to some sites listed in it.
